Ok.
1) So I've got a nice building in Sketchup. When I use the material tool to paint the different parts of it it looks fine...in Sketchup. When I'm in Kerkythea, it doesn't render the building with the right material in the right spots. What do I do?
2) How can I get some new materials? Especially, reflective glass.

I've got one..FredoScale 2.0 plugin..Twist option..I had just a simple cube and everything was right..I twisted it how I wanted..Now I have building..Made from 40 floors..Not so detailed but not so ordinary either..And I set it to twist about 40 degrees..Or 80 or any number..FredoScale is working, working and working..A few minutes and it's on 98%..And then it stops..I thought it just need some time so I left it that way over night..But in the morning, after 10 hours it was still on 98%...

Anyone with the same problem or someone know what's goin' on?

I thought, maybe I don't have enough strong pc for that..But I had earlier version of FredoScale and everything was fine..I could twist anything I wanted..

i don't use this plugin, but i guess the problem is not your computer. you could google it - maybe someone has had the same trouble and found a solution? sorry but that's all i can do...

1) a surface has two sides. probably you only need to paint the backside, too.

2) you can get new textures by importing images in SKP. but reflective glass doesn't exist, you need to set up reflection and refraction in Kerkythea
(see Kerky help thread for further information)

If a texture isn't showing up, right click the surface and "reverse faces". Switch to monochrome (View>Toolbars>Styles) and reverse all the blue-ish gray faces. Then reapply the textures.

Z-Fighting

Why do faces sometimes get "sparkly" like this in SketchUp and won't fill in with colour properly?

(I just learned apparently this is called "z-fighting".

I create my facades by drawing all the lines down on a face first, and then pushing/pulling the resulting faces to create the facade. But when this starts to happen it is THE most FRUSTRATING thing in the world. You delete one face so that you can colour it in properly, and then an adjacent face goes sparkly the same way as the one you just fixed. A chain reaction...

Any way around this? It's driving me mad and delaying this tower.

I guess I may just have to remove every line on that whole facade and start drawing them out again?

EDIT:
I have had this issue for months, and suddenly tonight after posting this I think I may have found a solution. I simply click on the face on my grid that is having the z-fighting interference, and with the push/pull tool, I drag it to be on the exact same plane as the edge of that facade. That seems to clear the issue right up! (Though it's still annoying when it starts to happen all over the place. But at least I may have a solution!)

do you mean the problem when two surfaces are overlapping each other?
if so you need to intersect them.

Does anyone use the plug-in that allows you to Push/Pull multiple faces at once?

I am going to download that right now. It would make creating my facades ten times faster, as I spend most of the time pushing/pulling each individual window which takes AGES.

you could also make a component of a single window and then copy it

first, there's no master solution. it depends on the type of cladding. if you have thousands of identical panels, i suggest to make a component of a single one. so you can easily copy it.
but if you have a cladding with many individual panels, you should make a 2D-surface with the basic shape drawn in. now you can push/pull the surface.

the third case is a complex curved cladding. but be careful - this is a difficult thing and you should be very experienced if you're going to try this.
for such a complex shaped surface you should use the 'follow me' tool. this is sometimes a bit annoying and takes a long time...

i hope these tips are helpful

Bump Mapping

hey guys, take a look at this render. what do you think of the white aluminium cladding of the building? well, it's done with bump mapping. at this point i want to recommend you this setting. textured surfaces are looking very realistic with bump mapping

You know dubai someone should make a tutorital on how to make a floor/floor building so newcomers to sketchup know how..............

And then you could edit the first post so they casn find it easier.

eh?

if someone is willing to make such a tutorial, i would add it to the first post
but i can't make it because i don't have any time for it and i remember there was already a simple tutorial for floor-by-floor towers made by malec. perhaps you could ask him if he remember which thread it was...
