Sydney Metro first TBM has completed her journey

The first Sydney Metro Northwest tunnel boring machine has reached the end of the line – breaking through for the final time at Epping today.

Tunnel Boring Machine 3 Isabelle completed her journey from Cherrybrook after digging almost 6km of Australia’s longest railway tunnels, and will soon be dismantled.

“More than 75 per cent of tunnelling is now complete – that’s 22km down, 8km to go.”

Sydney Metro to get video help points for customers

NSW Minister for Transport and Infrastructure Andrew Constance today announced a $75 million contract has been awarded for the customer information and communications systems on Sydney Metro Northwest.

“Sydney’s new metro line will use advanced passenger information technology, including Video Help Points at all metro stations,” Mr Constance said.

“The latest communications and surveillance systems will monitor the new metro network, taking customer experience to a new level with direct video links to staff at the metro control centre via these Video Help Points.

Buses have travelled down the city's main street, George Street for the last time today as construction on the CBD and South East light rail (see first post on this page) begins. Gradual closures on George street will begin tomorrow and there will be major changes to all bus routes which travel through the CBD. Major construction works on the light rail are expected to begin on 23 October.

Sydney Metro | New train mockup interiors

A life-size train model has been delivered for customer testing on Sydney Metro Northwest. The 13-tonne life-size train model has been delivered to the Showground Station site and is a full-scale version of approximately 75 per cent of the front carriage – including the distinctive nose section where customers will be able to travel while looking directly out the front of the fully automated train.

The life-size train model will be tested over coming weeks with a range of people including school groups, parents with prams, the less mobile as well as emergency services and engineers.

Bus Rapid Transit | Northern Beaches B:Line

The NSW Government has today unveiled the future of bus travel on the Northern Beaches, with a fleet of double decker buses to run at least every 10 minutes during the day from new bus stops between Mona Vale and the CBD.

NSW Premier Mike Baird and Minister for Transport and Infrastructure Andrew Constance said services on the new 27 kilometre bus rapid transit network called B-Line are expected to be up and running by late 2017.

The project will include:

- Nine modern B-Line stops at Mona Vale, Warriewood, Narrabeen, Collaroy, Dee Why, Brookvale, Manly Vale, Spit Junction (Mosman) and Neutral Bay with real-time information, seating, weather protection and improved facilities for customers.

- Six new commuter car parks at Mona Vale, Warriewood, Narrabeen, Dee Why, Brookvale and Manly Vale providing about 900 spaces.

- Brand-new double decker buses with improved on-board capacity and comfort
