GREDELJ LOCOMOTIVES GOING TO MOROCCO – ANOTHER MAJOR DEAL WITH AMERICAN COMPANY

General Manager of TZV Gredelj, Kresimir Kranjcec, together with Vice President for International Affairs, Will Burrows, and Vice President for International Sales, John E. Tooke, of the American National Railway Equipment Company (NREC) have signed a contract on reconstruction and modernization of diesel-electric GT26 series locomotives.

Locomotives are intended for haulage of heavy freight trains on non-electrified tracks in Morocco.

The value of the delivery is around 7 million dollars.

Reconstruction and modernization of the above locomotives shall prolong their exploitation period for another 25 years. This project is continuation of a long-standing cooperation with the American National Railway Equipment Company (NREC) for which TZV Gredelj has so far delivered a significant number of reconstructed and modernized locomotives which are operating throughout the world.

“This is certainly an important deal for us where, as part of this contract, Gredelj shall for the first time produce complete main frame for the above locomotives. The signing of this contract has further confirmed the expertise and capabilities of TZV Gredelj's employees as well as exceptional reputation and competitiveness in construction of new and maintenance of the existing rolling stock in a demanding international market“ – said General Manger of TZV Gredelj, Kresimir Kranjcec.

Today Gredelj is proud of the fact that its locomotives, coaches and multiple units were designed

in accordance with UIC and AAR standards, and are capable of running on all track gauges (narrow, wide or standard). They are currently transporting passengers and goods all over the world, from Argentina, over Guinea, to Saudi Arabia.

The authority better find an inspiring spokesperson (think lady!) in place of a stuffy bureaucrat if they truly wish to be sensitising people to level crossings

Eliop Seinalia (CAF Group) has set up the Rabat Teleoperated Control Center for Railway Electrification and Remote Substation Management for the Moroccan Railway Network. The ONCF management team attended the Teleoperated Center opening ceremony.

The Control Center is part of the contract between Eliop Seinalia and the ONCF (Office National des Chemins de Fer) to renovate all the electrical substations powering the Moroccan electrified railway systems with teleoperated control systems for remote management.

The contract, currently being implemented, also includes renovating the 55 existing substations, outfitting them with the teleoperated control system, the communications and fiber optic networks, the fire protection systems, intrusion detection systems and two main Control Centers to oversee the entire network. The Rabat Center has been the first of such centers to start operating
.

The ONCF contract was the result of an international tender process awarded to Eliop Seinalia as part of the Moroccan Railway modernization and renovation process. This is the first modern control center implemented by the ONCF.

The system will also serve the new High Speed lines and substations that are now being designed and planned for Morocco.

The Teleoperated Control Center for Railway Electrification solution is based on the potential of the SHERPA System and the ELITEL RTU’s, for control and supervision of the substations. The contract for this turn-key project includes design, engineering, supply, installation, start-up process and subsequent maintenance of all the equipment and systems implemented at the Control Centers and all field equipment associated to the Railway Network.

CASABLANCA - KENITRA | Upgraded Classic Line & 3rd track | 130 km | 220 km/h | 4,5MMDH |#U-C (2011-2015)

Quote:

Casablanca – Kénitra upgrading starts

MOROCCO: A ceremony on September 25 attended by King Mohammed VI marked the start of modernisation of the Casablanca – Kénitra main line to increase capacity by around 50%.

National railway ONCF has cited strong growth in passenger numbers on the Tanger – Marrakech axis in recent years, driven by ‘the dynamic growth in tourism and social-economic and cultural dynamism which has affected this region’. Partly funded by a €300m loan from the African Development Bank, the upgrading will see a third track added between Casablanca and Kénitra for freight traffic, releasing capacity on the existing double-track alignment. ADB expects the modernisation programme to create 20 000 direct and indirect jobs.

ONCF expects to carry 24 million passengers per annum on the Tanger – Marrakech corridor by 2016; work has already started on a 200 km dedicated high speed line between Tanger and Kénitra for completion by the end of 2015. The upgraded section to Casablanca via Rabat will see TGV Duplex trainsets run at 220 km/h under 3 kV DC catenary.

SNCF BB 36000 Astride

Being built in 1995, the pre-series BB 36001 was outshopped at GEC Alsthom's Belfort factory in January 1996. From then, the approval process started. Serie delivery was initiated in 1997. In 1998, a provisional limited authorization was granted for France, while a second batch of thirty locomotives was ordered, to boost freight traffic with Italy.

International services to Belgium and Italy

The year 2000 saw the 36000 getting approved for operation in Italy, and the beginning of the delivery of the second batch; BB 36031 to 060. Where the first batch had a red cabin front, the second serie got this part painted in green, the new base colour of all French locomotives running for the new freight division of the French railways at that time; Fret SNCF.

Initially, the BB 36000s is developed for mixed services, hence its possible top speed of 200 kph. However, its envisaged duty as haulage for the new international nights services (project Nightstar) through Channel Tunnel never became reality, as the complete project was cancelled. Since then, the BB 36000 is fully dedicated to international freight service. [B]Their actual maximum speed varies, being dependent of voltage system and country. Since 2003, 200 kph was only allowed under 25kV AC catenary in France. An overview:

[F] 25 kV : 200 kph
[F] 1.5 kV : 160 kph

[B] 3 kV : 120 kph
25 kV : 100 kph
[I] 3 kV : 120 kph

Authorization in Belgium and Italy were cross processes with SNCB's HLE 13 and Trenitalia's E402 B series authorization in France. As all types are being used for freight services only, each of them have there full max speed only in their home country, and 120 kph abroad. This reduced speed also avoided costing supplementary tests (such as current collection).

The "reds" (BB 36001 to 36030) are generally used for international freight services from and to Belgium. They are authorized for running in this neighboring country since 2002. Direct through haulage of intermodal trains with the same locomotive is observed from Schaerbeek to Orbassano at that time. The BB 36000s were approved for Belgium, France and Italy at that time.

Adjustments for services in Italy; the BB 36200 and BB 36300 subseries
From 2003 to 2007, all the locomotives from the second batch were modified, to be better fitted for heavy freight haulage through the Alps. Multiple unit control and automatic fire detection/extinction was installed. In a first step, twelve locomotives were modified and renumbered as BB 36200. Eight other locomotives received the same modifications, plus SAFI (emergency brake override), for use with the AFA (Rolling motorway) from Aiton [F] to Orbassano [I]. They were renumbered as BB 36300. Step by step, all BB 36200s were then converted to the BB 36300 version. Finally, in 2006 and 2007, also the 36051 to 36060 were converted into BB 36300s, so all second batch units are the same since then. Also, the "greens" are all specialized for the international France-Italy connection. BB 36300s can run in multiple, but that is only allowed in Italy and France under 1,5 kV DC.

Two units are no longer property of the French railways. In 2005, as a participation in providing rolling stock for AFA, Trenitalia purchases the BB 36339 and BB 36348 from the SNCF.

In 2006, SNCF’s subsidiary SNCF Fret Italia (now Captrain Italia) starts open access operation in Italy. Thus, all BB36300 running in Italy under its license are re-matriculated as E 436 3xx MF series. MF stands for Monferail, the open access operator purchased by SNCF to enter the Italian market.

First batch sold to Akiem, available for rent

In July 2010, BB 36001 to 36030 were sold to SNCF’s subsidiary Akiem, and leased back. Since then, all first batch Astride locomotives are available for rent to rail operators other than the SNCF and its partners. Veolia/Transdev are the first to make use of the leasing services of Akiem when they start a night train services between Paris and Italy in December 2011. They hire BB 36007, 36011 and 36015 from Akiem.

[FR/MA] Akiem BB 36000s are going to Morocco

This summer, seven BB 36000 locomotives will make an interesting career change. BB 36001-36006 and 36008 will be transferred from France to Morocco. Akiem will hire them to OCP, Office Chérifien des Phosphates, which will use them to haul their 4800 t phosphate trains. The national railway company ONCF will operate the trains.

The engines will get a new pantograph tuned to the Moroccan catenary, and some other minor adjustments will be done, before they will start their south bound journey. - Akiem
http://www.railcolor.net/index.php?nav=1409416&lang=1

CASABLANCA-KENITRA UPGRADE

on October 2, 2012 in Morocco

There has been marked growth in passenger numbers on the Tanger-Marrakech axis in recent years, Office National des Chemins de fer (ONCF – the national railway of Morocco) reports. A project to modernise the Casablanca-Kénitra main line – aimed at increasing capacity by about 50% – began on 25 September. Funded in part by a €300m loan from the African Development Bank (ADB), the upgrading includes adding a third track between Casablanca and Kénitra for freight traffic, to release capacity on the existing double-track alignment. ADB expects the modernisation programme to create 20,000 direct and indirect jobs. ONCF foresees carrying 24 million passengers per annum on the Tanger-Marrakech corridor by 2016; work has already started on a 200km dedicated high-speed line between Tanger and Kénitra for completion by the end of 2015. The upgraded section to Casablanca via Rabat is to use TGV Duplex trainsets running at 220km/h under 3kV DC catenary.

Casablanca – Kénitra upgrading starts

26 September 2012
