TZV Gredelj and NREC deliver diesel locomotives to Morocco

Written by Keith Barrow

Philip Wormald

CROATIAN rolling stock supplier TZV Gredelj and National Railway Equipment Company (NREC), United States, have completed the delivery of an order for 30 GT26CW-3W locomotives for Moroccan National Railways (ONCF).

The final two of the Co-Co single-cab units were shipped to Morocco from the Croatian port of Rijeka.

The new-build 2.46MW locomotives were assembled by TZV Gredelj and are fitted with EMD 16-645 engines, which have been remanufactured by NREC.

The two companies say they are planning to continue their co-operation and TZV Gredelj expects to sign a further contract to supply GT26 to a customer in Africa within the next few months.

Moroccan Railways to invest $US 970m this year

Written by Keith Barrow

THE BOARD of Moroccan National Railways (ONCF) has approved a draft investment budget of Dirhams 8bn ( $US 970m) for this year, which will fund construction of the 183km Tangiers – Kénitra high-speed line, enhancements on conventional lines, and the modernisation of the train fleet.

The budget allocates Dirhams 5 billion to the high-speed project, while the remaining Dirhams 3 billion will be invested in the existing network, including the construction of a third track on the Casablanca – Rabat – Kenitra line and track-doubling between Settat and Marrakech, as well as safety improvements, and the refurbishment of rolling stock.

ONCF is expected to place an order soon for 50 new locomotive-hauled coaches, including 30 second-class vehicles, 10 first-class coaches, five sleeping cars and five restaurant cars.

L'ONCF investira 7,5 milliards de DH en 2014

Par Hamza Mekouar
Jeudi 21 novembre 2013

ONCF invest 7.5 billion DH in 2014

Hamza Mekouar
Thursday, November 21, 2013

Continuing work of the TGV, electrification of the Fes -Oujda line development areas of logistics activity ... the action plan ONCF 2014 looks promising. PLF 2014 allocates 7.5 billion DH in these projects.

- High Speed Line Tangier- Casablanca:

work was launched on 29 September 2011 and continued until 2015. At a cost of 20 billion dirhams , the project includes a new line Tangier- Kenitra 200 Km, designed for a maximum speed of 350 Km / h but still operated at a commercial speed of 320 km / h , railway equipment, the acquisition of high-speed trains , as well as the construction of a maintenance workshop in the city of the strait. The journey Tangier -Casablanca will be 2:10 , against 6 long hours today.

ONCF announced that during the construction phase , nearly 30 million days of direct and indirect jobs will be generated , while during the operational phase , nearly 1,500 direct jobs and 800 indirect will also be created .

Another argument presented by ONCF to defend its TGV, this project will develop industrial technology of high speed and a local transfer of skills through the participation of several offices Moroccan studies.

Nevertheless, this project has critics , who consider the cost too expensive. The stop- tgv group had even launched a petition for the cancellation of work , " conducted by ONCF well underway ," according to the anti - hst .

Anyway , work is progressing according to schedule provided by the public institution which has just celebrated its 50th anniversary.

- Tripling the ways of the section Kenitra -Casablanca and upgrade:

The increase in capacity of the line and the triple track will create a channel that is dedicated to , and thereby release some of the current conventional routes . This line is 126 KM long .

The work , which began Sept. 22, 2012 , will enable the modernization of existing facilities : tracks, catenary , signaling ... but also enhancing the level of safety by removing remaining level crossings on the line, the construction of several bridges pedestrians and road underpasses for crossing lanes at stations.

With this project , ONCF endowed " railway axis most requested network " modern infrastructure allowing it to absorb the substantial flow of traffic expected in the best conditions.

It is true that the Casablanca - Kenitra is a railway hub, connecting the North, East and South of the country, which handles almost all of the traffic.

- The double tracking of the section Settat -Marrakech :

The work started , are in progress . According ONCF , this project will save 30 minutes on the Casablanca- Marrakech online. A budget of nearly 600 million DH is allocated to this project

" The upgrade is the renewal of 80 km of road and 140 km of overhead lines and there is a partial doubling that will affect 40 km from a road ", said El Rabii Khlie , CEO ONCF at the launch of the project.

- Rehabilitation of Sidi Kacem , Tanger online.

- The electrification of the Fes -Oujda line :

Like the projects mentioned above, this electrification is part of the 2010-2015 program between the state and the ONCF .

Long regarded as a part of Morocco useless Oujda knows a renewed interest , reflected in the King's visit in June and kick he gave to several projects in the region, including , include the new station Oujda . It should be noted that because of its historical importance , the current station will not be destroyed . Also note that the construction of the future station of the city of Oujda were launched June 19, 2013 . This project should be completed by end 2015.

- The development of areas of logistics activity ( LCA ) :

After the launch of the dry port of Casablanca in 2008 MITA , ONCF is being deployed logistics platforms to Fez ( Ben Souda ), Marrakesh ( Sidi Ghanem ) , Tangier ( Ain Dalia ) and Zenata .

In 2012, the ONCF transported over 36 million passengers , up 6.1 %, while freight traffic has stabilized at 37 million tonnes. As 2014, the budget allocated to ONCF in 2013 was 7.5 billion dirhams .

SETTAT - MARRAKECH | Doublement Total | 180 km | #Semi-Completed

1st phase: 40 km 600 million (15 million dhs / km),
Phase 2: 140km to 1.8 billion (12.8 million dhs / km),

45 minutes earned between Marrakech and Casablanca
From 3h15 to 2h3
0

Because the second phase includes an additional 2 viaducts (Tensift and Oum Rbia) + the deletion of 60 level crossings, it makes me think ONCF attacked in the first phase areas (particularly between Benguerir and Skour Rahmana) with major technical constraints especially as time saving and very important for a small course.

It will at the end:
- Way split in whole
- Minimum V160
- No crossing

Remains to be seen:
- Whether there will be fences
- Detectors falling objects on the tracks
- The signaling system used

You'll understand that this is a classic track fitted with the characteristics of a HSR if it meets the last 3 points....

Quote:

- V160 minimum

Around 2007, there was talk of LGV 2: North and South

Quote:

The South HSR was to be the first in Morocco? Settat-Marrakesh was zapped (since we had 0 there is no explanation other terms used) for the benefit of Tangier-Kenitra (following the dynamism triggered by Tanger Med and improvement of the current classical pathway).

Quote:

Today, it is income that I presented it a few years ago to improve the supply rail on the Tangier-Marrakech axis:

Quote:

--------------

HSR announced 1:06 min vs 2h30 for 2 tracks railway

The classical railway amenagement is 2 times slower (with 2.4 billion dirhams), but 7.5 times cheaper.

Quote:

Maybe SNCF because there is an agreement with ONCF (corail, CC7200 ...). And building 50 coaches in a such time is very difficult.

But not necessary refurbished. We do it at home.

It seems that SCIF (Morocco) didn't build passenger coaches (but freight like for tunisian phosphates yes) since a long time. They now are specialized in MLU (Middle Life Update)

Refurbished TGL Cars | 311 Corail/Eurofima/Sleepers | 160-200 km/h | 54-88 Seats | 640 MDH | #U-R

In last page there are severals videos, this one is new.

Last months, romanians companies came in Morocco. This is not 1st time.

Maybe romanian coaches. I would like to see some trenhotel of Renfe. I don't know if the opening of severals HSR in Spain or the Paris-Barcelone service in HST now will gave us oportunity to acquired some coaches of this level.

Romanian coaches.
