Ground transport hub slated for capital

Ground transport hub slated for capital

An artist’s rendition on phnompenh.gov.kh shows plans for a new international bus terminal to be built by LYP Group.
Local tycoon and CPP Senator Ly Yong Phat has announced plans to build a new bus terminal on the outskirts of Phnom Penh intended to serve as the capital’s ground transport hub.
Ly Yong Phat said his LYP Group had invested about US$10 million in the project, planned to be opened in January or February of 2011.

“I will build the bus station, and if bus companies and other passenger service providers park at my station, they have to pay us a set fee,” Ly Yong Phat said.

The terminal will have a capacity of 264 buses, 540 cars, 342 vans and 300 minibuses, Ly Yong Phat said, and will be constructed on 27 hectares of land in Russey Keo district’s Bak Kheng commune, which was formerly part of Kandal province’s Muk Kampoul district before being re-zoned earlier this year.

Ly Yong Phat has been involved in contentious land disputes in Oddar Meanchey and Kampong Speu provinces with villagers who claim to have been displaced by his development projects.

Muk Kampoul district deputy police chief Koang Siphal said, however, that the land in Bak Kheng commune was uninhabited forest purchased by Ly Yong Phat several years ago.

How on earth are you suppose to build a $10m terminal, within 2 months?

A bus stations/terminal is not going to solve anything, you need affordable public transport, delicate bus/train/tram route, on time service, and people actually wants to use it instead of the tok tok/motor-tok.

And a bus route servicing phnom penh city centre does not need a terminal in outer phnom penh.

Such bus terminal will probably need to be near the airport, Psar Thmey, or/and close to the River side.

This happen to Poipet as well, the new bus terminal is so far away from the immigration check point and the city of Poipet.

To reach the new bus terminal, everyone has to take shuttle bus from the border to the new bus terminal before taking other buses to other cities.

Yes it is really small amount, and hopefully after this bus station finished its construction the city hall will make it easy for investors to invest the bus route in p-penh and out skirt.

So its not much difficul if we can take bus on time to the new bus station then we take the new bus to somewhere...or provinces.

This is what p-penh city hall trying to remove the anarchy bus/taxi stations in down town p-penh and to release traffic jam.

Very optimistic speaking, assume a go ahead now, maybe ready in 2013.

For me I think it's will be completed on time, if latest maybe untill month of May/2011.

Because this construction is working on the ground and they not build any concret floor, so it's doesn't need much time if they really want to finished on time.

This station is a kind of steel building + with glass.

Is an artist impression, which suggested to me there are no architectural plan yet.

We are not building a bus stop, we are talking about a facilities to park over 1000 vehicles, and potentially house thousand of people at any time, possibly with food court facilities. I would say it is a construction somewhat more complicated then the exhibition centres in Koh Pich. How long did the exhibition centres took to build?

Of course, if the parking lots is not paved with concrete or bitumen (which means the place is going to be very dusty), and they plan to build the terminal in stages, we may have something ready (probably 1/10 the scale) within 6 months.

Anyone have any idea exactly where is this Google Earth (coordinate).
