They certainly helped put it on the map to a Worldwide audience.

(Liverpool) Well known all over the world; for instance I visited the hotel where John Lennon was shot this week on my visit to New York, and across the road in Central Park they have a memorial called Strawberry Fields, and everyone around there was talking about John Lennon and Liverpool. Any scouser would've been proud. I was certainly jealous, anyway.
But it's Liverpool they're talking about though, just ask Voldermortblack.

That is what makes the Liver Building an icon. Simple.
They used the Liver Building in the Free As A Bird video as well as Penny Lane,Strawberry Fields and The Cavern as the camera flies through the city.

Earl Leofric was the hubby of said woman and because of his mannerisms caused his missus to ride naked through the streets of Cov, and also created another famous phrase - Peeping Tom who was having a gander!

True, very true, however, solely relying on the internet for your facts can lead you astray. For example, the statement that Boston, MA is the "sports capital of North America" was abysmally wrong. Wouldn't you agree?

PS: Awayo does sarcasm better than yourself. I guess it's just another thing Scousers do better than Mancs.

It took you two whole days to come up with that riveting riposte?

I almost missed it, I was enjoying Mickey's Magic Kingdom with my family and, normally, your posts are not worth reading, full of bitterness, snide comments, self aggrandizement and misinformation. But hey, if you PM me, whenever you think you have posted a clever remark, I will certainly respond in a more timely manner. Go on, I dare you.

By the way, just where did you glean the information that Boston was North America's sports capital? And also, who told you that you were the forums "expert" on all things US?

Godiva is very much associated with Coventry, perhaps not something that's been milked as much as Robin (Also Peeping Tom, a fairly famous saying, originates in Coventry.)
The three spires are mentioned in a poem in the 19th century, and appear all over the city as images.
Google it.
Coventry's coat of arms has an elephant carrying a castle on it.

They may not be worldwide or nationwidwe icons, but they are all things that you'll see in Coventry in business names, streets names, artwork, letterheads, logos, etc, etc.

Yup.

In reality, Leofric and Godiva were benefactors to the Benedictine Abbey that became the first Cathedral... In late Saxon times this was probably a wise political move. The legend was probably a Christianisation of a Pagan ritual (The same ritual that "Ride A Cock Horse to Banbury Cross" came from.) The Peeping Tom thing was added in the 17th century....

If you want to laugh, see this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4fuMzU-tEc4

It's one of those films that's "so bad it's good".

For Blackpool, I would say the following:

Tower
Trams
Winter Gardens
It's 3 piers
Illuminations
Pleasure Beach
