Depends on your definition of a lane really. It's not a through road lane like Burnett Lane or through pedestrian lane like Gresham Lane, but rather a service lane like Spencer Lane off Margaret St, or Bakery Lane and Overells Lane in the Valley. Either way, it's a good example of activating a hidden, largely ignored space.

As always, loving your photos Aussie Bhoy!Ok then, if you want to be pedantic: Lane n. 1. a. A narrow country road. b. A narrow way or passage between walls, hedges, or fences. Source I think Winn Lane could be described as a "narrow passage between walls." |

You know originally, when this was first proposed after Empire Square, I really thought it sucked the big one.
But now, as it's starting to rise, and seeing all the activity on the site, I have to say... I still think it sucks the big one. Talk about settling for mediocrity.

Nah, it's short but it's not quite that short! At a rough estimate, it's probably a bit over halfway to it's finished height.![]() |

I dont hate the design, I just wish it was like, 150metres taller...they could have just added in lots of loors in between the podium and the crown, and it would have been a GREAT outcome.

My comment might seem a bit off for a website called Skyscraper City, but we really don't need every building to be 150m+ in the CBD. Personally I'd prefer 50 - 70m towers spread across the city with a few concentrations of taller buildings. It makes the skyline look better if there are a lot of different heights and shapes.

![]() Fair comment, but remember that this was the site of the 200m+ Empire Square Tower, which was meant to host a Westin Hotel, so to get this instead wasn't the greatest ever outcome... ![]() Source |

However, it would be great if we could get a 250-260 metre to roof tower right in the middle of the CBD. |

I'm not saying we shouldn't have any talls and super talls, just that we shouldn't expect every other tower to be super tall or spectacularly iconic. I get off on super talls like the rest of us.

I feel its more that the previous proposal was amazing and we ended up with this stubby little thing on a prime site

Given how many supertalls or tall buildings we actually get, i.e. next to none, I think you are needn't worry too much, Aurora and Riparian in the last 10 years is hardly anything to write home about, outside of little ol Brissy a 200m tall building is nothing.

Everyday I walk along Southbank and look over at those cranes and quite literally mourn. How the hell am I to get over my grief when you perform such mongrel acts?

I apologise. I did not mean to cause you grief. I weep too when I think about what we could have had.
