@ BarbaricManchurian

It's interesting to know that no other country has ever attempted to build infrastructure projects similar to this (or similar in scale as this).

This project is brilliant right from the start.

I have a question: Does Mainland Chinese cities use some sort of Octopus card like Hong Kong on the subway?

Yes quite a few cities have them: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_smart_cards#Asia
That list is incomplete though, eg I know that Xiamen also have contactless smart card

But all the Chinese cities have different cards. Can one card be used in another city? If not, I am really surprised that they are not trying to standardise the whole system.

Like if you're driving from one city and parking in another city, you should be able to use the same card.

Cards from certain Tangzte delta cities including Shanghai are interchangeable IIRC.

I went to Hongqiao hub just earlier today and it looks like only a few platforms (on the west side) of the railway station are being used. There's still some interior works going on in some sections of the complex with new escalators being installed etc - the road network isn't 100% complete either AFAIK.

The airport part is fully operational.

Only a few CRH trains start from the high-speed train station, i.e. Shanghai-Nanjing, Shanghai-Tianjin, Shanghai-Beijing (200km/h train)

When I was at the station two weeks ago, a few stores in the railway station is still under renovation (opening in weeks). I guess the station will be fully operational when Beijing-Shanghai express rail (350km/h) is completed next year.

Subway line 2 is connecting this facility. There are two stops (Hongqiao airport T2 and Hongqiao railway station)

Subway line 10 has not connected to it yet (it says opening soon), line 10 will also connect Hongqiao T1.

Line 20 connecting suburban Qingpu District and Hongqiao Station and line 17 will be built later.
And who knows when the extension of maglev will start--there is supposed to be a maglev station at Hongqiao hub as well.
