What terminal were you in, cause I've seen none of that and the airport imo is actually quite nice. Especially T2

I use PVG 3 to 4 times a month and Jaroslaw is actually right. The food prices are indeed ridiculous (a coffee is more expensive than in European or American airports where people earn 5 times as much), the support staff speaks almost no English, which is a problem all over China (last months I even encountered staff at the check-in counters in Wuhan who couldn't speak English!) and something is also constantly not working, whether it is elevators, toilets or something else.

City's air traffic congestion likely to decrease
Shanghai Daily
Apr 7, 2011

SHANGHAI'S congested air traffic is expected to ease as more planes will be allowed in the sky from today when more air lanes will be created, according to the regional air traffic authority.

The East China Air Traffic Management Bureau said yesterday it would lower the minimum flight altitude to 7,800 meters, down from 8,400 meters, starting from today around east China, including Shanghai.

However, industry experts remained cautious that this would reduce flight delays.

Since air routes are divided by altitude, dropping the minimum altitude allows more aircraft to be in the sky at the same time, officials said.

The minimum altitude between two planes is set at 300 meters, so 600 meters adds two more "air lanes," the authority said, adding this will help reduce flight delays.

Passenger complaints have mounted about flight delays and carriers, in turn, have blamed them on strict air controls.

However, industry insiders said the "new method in reducing delays still needs to be proven in the long run."

Private jet sector to fly
Created: 2011-4-14 1:37:02
Shanghai Daily

SHANGHAI will expand its business aviation service base at Hongqiao International Airport as the city eyes rising business trips and increasing number of private aircraft.

Wang Guangdi, board chairman of Shanghai Hawker Pacific Aviation Service Centre, said yesterday that "the potential demand is huge around the Yangtze Delta region" and Shanghai "shall catch this opportunity."

The city's airports handled 3,500 movements of business aircraft in 2010, about 33 percent of the total volume in the country, said the Shanghai Airport Authority.

The volume may increase an average of 10 to 15 percent in the next five years, said Wang. To handle the expected volume of 6,000 movements in the next two to three years, another 4,000 square-meter hangar will be built at the Hongqiao base, which became operational one year ago in March, the SAA said.

It said it is also working to improve repair and maintenance services, and by the end of this year three firms will offer such work at the center.

Speaking at a business aviation forum yesterday held together with the first Shanghai International Business Aviation Show, Xu Chaoqian, an official with the state civil aviation authority, said that "the airspace resources will be restructured in the following five years. The general aviation sector needs to be reformed."
