Thanks for the great update. Massive structure. Is the fate of Maglev line determined?

Do you mean 100% "yes, they decided and will build it "or 100% "Yes they decided, but I dont know the result of the decision"?

If yes, they already should be building it, right?

Yes, they are building it right now. The debate is whether to have maglev to Hangzhou (maglev from Pudong to Hongqiao is u/c), they say they'll build it by 2014 but it hasn't started, so we're not sure yet.

Did you really have to quote every single photo when they were all posted above?

Wow the speed is just amazing! Is the old Hongqiao demolished or somewhere nearby?

Its somewhere nearby, you can see in the background of big-dog's latest update that its just behind the old asphalt runway.

According to some Shanghai forumers, the old terminal will be used for helicopter boarding, VIP/private boarding, freight terminal. It won't be demolished.

I don't think maglev will be ready by 2010, or even 2012.

Shanghai Pudong, Hongqiao airports uniting by subway before May 2010

Quote:

File this under the2010 World Expo actually making our lives marginally more convenient, huzzah!

Shanghai's Hongqiao and Pudong airports are pretty darned far from each other - what with SHA located a good 13km East from downtown Puxi and PVG set squarely at the very Western tip of Pudong. Getting from one airport to the other usually involves a blend of taxis and buses (sometimes combined with metros and the Maglev) through often traffic jam-ridden highways.

But thankfully for those of us who prefer the more predictable human jams of the subway, News 163 has reported that Metro Line 2 will be extended both Westward to Hongqiao and Eastward to the Pudong Airport by May 1, 2010, just in time for the World Expo.

Sure it doesn't sound as convenient as the proposed extension of the Shanghai maglev line between the two air traffic hubs, but it's less likely to draw the amount of protests that derailed that very project...

...assuming the project has been derailed. Hmmm.
