Welcome to the forum Toronto75

Retail stores , well Dubai has plenty already , However , around 1500-2000 new retail stores will be added to the market by 2007 when the following places are completed

Gardens shopping mall

Emirates Mall

Dubai mall

Burjuman Expanson

Zabeel mall

DFC mall

and not sure about the arabian mall to be located in the Dubai land project but its going to have over 300+ restaurants

And about restaurants , you have to know this , arabs love FOOD :P so you will never think there is a shortage of restaurants from all over the world

Dubai Boy thank you...

I'm not looking for amounts of stores or restaurants...

I'm looking for specific names and descriptions...

What kind of American, Canadian Australian or international restaurants, bars, night clubs, cafes, retail stores, department stores have recently opened and are projected to open in DUBAI?

You can find the names of specific shops that are open in Dubai by following the links to the shopping mall sites.

Harvey Nichols is opening for the first time in Mall of the Emirates next year, and the expanded BurJuman will have around 40-60% of its new space dedicated for Saks Fifth Avenue department store.

There are some sites which list all restaurants in the UAE. But I gtg shopping now.. so will search for 'em later

DID YOU SAY "Saks Fifth Avenue?" OH MY GOD...

If this is true, this will be by far Dubai's most exclusive and elite retail address...

PS. I couldn't find it anywhere on the BurJMan website?

This is one of the many sites that list Dubai's restaurants:

http://www.dubaicityguide.com/goingout/restaurants.asp

But a lot of them are incomplete and don't list some small places like those in foodcourts which sometimes have great food or take-away places. They also haven't listed new restaurants like those in the newly opened Madinat Jumeira (which are all really bad). There are two good magazines in Dubai that always list new places and have reviews of new restaurants/old ones, and cafes, bars..etc. They're Time-Out Dubai and What's On. They have sites as well.

Clothing retail stores in Dubai are from all over the world. I find there are some differences in price depending on where the store is originally from. I never buy from British stores like Marks & Spencer, Oasis, River Island, Miss Selfridge, Debenhams, Next, and Topshop here because it's much more expensive than in the UK. But European stores don't have much of a difference in price.. and what's great is that they get all their collections with some extra stuff you can't find anywhere else which is made specifically for Islamic countries (impossible to find decent long skirts anywhere else in the world). There are many American brands as well.. and Studio R in City Centre has the Gap.

For designer wear, big malls such as City Centre and BurJuman have got some designer stores, but mostly they are for casual wear like the DKNY and CK brands. There is one Lebanese boutique in BurJuman that sells one blouse for AED 30,000.. ha. Wafi is an almost specialized mall for designer wear and they have brands like Iceberg..etc. But most exclusive stores are located in unknown centres on al-Maktoum and al-Riqqa street. Also in Emirates Towers. They prefer a more quiet place.

In the small Jumeira malls like Jumeira Centre, Jumeira Plaza and Beach Centre, you can find some unique boutiques that aren't designer but import only one piece from mediterranean countries or elsewhere, so it's almost like designer. Some centres, like al-Manal specialize in textiles and in Satwa and certain areas in Deira you can find Indian or Levantine textiles of all kinds, from 1 AED per yard to 4000 AED per yard. The tailoring business used to be very active in the UAE previously when there were not that many ready-made clothing retail outlets.. but now they mainly work to make custom-made evening gowns and things of the sort. You can design your own dress (if you want a dress.. haha).

There are places like Mina Bazaar that sell things for the South Asian community mostly.. like saris and stuff.. and it's quite cheap. In Karama you can find cheap stuff as well. There's really a very big range and people of all incomes find a place to shop in Dubai.

If you're interested I can draw you a map of some factory outlets in Ajman which sell original brands such as Marks & Spencer, Zara, and Victoria's Secret (which still isn't open in the UAE btw) at really cheap prices. All these clothes are manufactured in the UAE. They also have Waterford crystals (haha.. and it's supposed to be Irish). Okaidi is a French kids clothing store which sells clothes for around 300 AED per piece.. over in the factory outlet it's 10 AED. The place is all sand and looks really scary but it's great. You see Abu Dhabi and Dubai Mercs and BMW's all lined up there in Ajman in the middle of an industrial area

The best places for designer closes are Twin Towers in Deira, just next to Intercontinental and of course The Boulvar on Emirates Towers.

As for the Saks Fifth Avenue, I'm niot familiar with that, but I'm sure there are better places to buy closes. North America is the land of Jeans, Khakis and sneakers and nothing else. Please don't mention Tommy, CK and RL. Same quality and sometimes better design for a fraction of money you can find in H&M stores across Northen Europe.

My favourite restaurant by far is (Italian) La Moda in Intercontinental: food is great but above all the atmosfere. The one outside in the sea-faceing tarrace in Dubai Marine Beach Resort is very nice too and the Tortelini and Tiramisus there are the best in town. I don't think the Jumeirah located Hotels have generallu (very) good restaurants, and they are very expensive too.

The best Chinese restaurant seams to be the one in Ramada Hotel BurDubai but the one in Mina Al Salam seams nice too.
