Question The "black sheep" city of your State

Is there a certain city in your State that one could considered to be an outcast or a "black sheep" among the State's other cities?

In my State I gotta say it's Greensboro, but others may say it's Fayetteville.

Either El Paso or McAllen for Texas since it is so far removed from the rest of the state.

Springfield. Most definitely Springfield.

Agreed. Fresno could be in Nebraska and the only thing that would change would be the license plates on the cars.

Duluth, without a doubt. A rust belt city in an otherwise non-rust belt state.

Chicago, if viewed from downstate. Or the rest of the state, if viewed from Chicago.

For Maryland, I want to say something like Silver Spring or Bethesda, but they're huge now, the DC area dominates in population. Maybe Salisbury? Does Ocean City count as a city?

I'd have to say either Cumberland or Salisbury for Maryland. Cumberland is in the western portion of the state and Salisbury on the eastern shore. Both cities feel the pinch from a state that is politically driven based off the I-95 corridor. Hell, the DC suburbs often feel like outcasts too considering the majority of political clout for the state lies within the vicinity of the Baltimore Metropolitan Area.

In NYS: Albany or Niagara Falls.
In NJ: Camden or Trenton.
In NM: Hobbs or Espanola.

Tennessee: Memphis. The rest of the state would be glad to give it to Arkansas if they could.

Georgia: If you live outside of metro Atlanta, then its Atlanta. but really there isn't one I can think of.

Only on SSC can the "black sheep of a state" and "heart of a state" be the same city.

I always felt like Macon was kinda out there from the rest of Georgia but you got me thinking since really the only place I've gotten to know Georgia longer than a stop at a rest stop is Atlanta. If you look at it, that statement is pretty much true.

Which really wants me to change my answer from Ocala to Orlando because there really isn't much in that city that says Florida at all.

Winchester seems about right for Virginia. It's got quite a Northern feel downtown, much unlike any other city in Virginia.

i would say the area known as the tri cities, which includes a city by the name of johnson city, bristol, and kingsport, tn. it is in the eastern tip of tn and is pretty much forgotten by most people in the majority of the state because of the extreme location, backward ways of its people, and no real engagement in tn affairs, as a whole. nashville would be another city i would vote to relinquish because of its country music and hill billy image and extreme pretentiousness trying to shake the history.

C'mon. Other than not having a coast and beach towns, the majority of of Orlando is just like most of Tampa, Miami, SW Florida and Jacksonville. By that I mean the make up of the people, the suburbs, the architecture in most of town.
I would've said Miami a couple years ago for being so much larger, developed, diverse and much more of a big city than anything in Florida.
But I think the Conch Republic is the black sheep. Key West might also be love and adored by the state, but it's a whole other world down there. They also happened to have seceded a couple years ago...
