Bringing up an oldie.
For Nebraska it is Scottsbluff. Not only is it culturally different than most of the rest of the state (definitely more of a Western town than Midwestern) it's dingy and depressing. Iowa has several viable candidates (notably Council Bluffs and Ottumwa) but Sioux City sticks out the most. It's stagnant, filthy, and the rendering plants give it the nickname "Sewer City", and is most apparent in the summer time. |

Springfield for Mass. As far as most people are concerned, Mass ends somewhere on the other side of Worcester. Springfield has over 700,000 in its geographically small metro, and is less then 30 miles from downtown Hartford. Springfield has a lot more connections with Hartford than it does with metro Boston, which is a big part of why most Bay Staters forget it's even part of the state.

I would not say that about Lubbock because of the presence of Texas Tech.
