Very impressive colonial portuguese monuments in all over the continents. Most of them I never heard before. Shame that many are in so bad condition. Wonderful to see. Great thread!

Muito interessante as igrejas protuguesas na India, em locais que a muito não pertencem a Portugal, muitas delas ainda ativas, o que demonstra que a influencia lusa permaneceu. As mais antigas são renascentistas, diferente daquelas do Brasil que tem predominantemente o estilo barroco. Devem ser mais antigas (século XV), que as do Brasil (mais dos séculos XVII ao XVIII).

Soteropolis, Portugal had India possessions until the 1960 decade.


Just as curiosity, Macau was the last Portuguese overseas territory. It was returned to China in 1999, ending with the longest and first European Overseas Empire, almost 6 centuries, from 1415 to 1999.

Goa (well Old Goa) was also a pretty special city for the Portuguese Empire. It was the capital of Portugal's Eastern colonies and had a huge influence in the spread of Christianity in Asia. It was considered the Rome of the East and there was even a saying that said that one doesn't need to see Lisbon after he has seen Goa. I believe there were more Portuguese churches in India but many were destroyed by Dutch.
