The Jesuit's Palace of Rio de Janeiro - Quinta da Boa Vista

This is a very important landmark in Rio de Janeiro.

It was built by the Jesuits in the XVI century and later on taken over by the Crown in the XVIII century when the Jesuits were expelled from the Portuguese Kingdom.

When John VI arrived in Rio it seems that it was occupied and so the official story says it was "donated" by the noble Elias Antonio Lopes to the King.

It served as the official residence of the Portuguese King and later on to all kings of the Brazilian Empire - Peter I and Peter II.
