The University of North Dakota men's hockey team will face the University of Nebraska Omaha in an outdoor game on Feb. 9, 2013 in Omaha at the TD Ameritrade Park.

some of those middle and upper deck seats will probably have excellent views of the rink. much better than a single tier stadium like Michigan.

The Historic Hockey Series (from Wikipedia):

Each February since 1969 the International Hockey Hall of Fame presents its annual Historic Hockey Series. The series is both a competition and demonstration of the first organized hockey game played on the Kingston Harbour in 1886 between Queen's University and the Royal Military College of Canada. The original style sticks and uniforms as well as the original rules of that era are used including a square puck and seven players per side with no forward passing. Queen’s University and the Royal Military College of Canada compete along with the 2nd Regiment from the Royal Canadian Horse Artillery from Petawawa who represent the garrison soldiers stationed in Kingston in the 1880s in a round-robin tournament. The 38th Annual Historic Hockey Series took place on Sunday February 5, 2006 on the new outdoor rink at Kingston’s downtown historic Market Square.

Here in Aachen, Germany for several years now there is an annual pole vault competition in the city center on the so called "Katschhof" which is the court between the cathedral and the historic city hall, which are both originally part of the historic castle of Charlemagne.
On this event named "Domspringen" (translated it basically means cathedral jump or cathedral jumping competition) many of Germanies even Europes top athletes participate.
And the atmosphere is really great for pole vault events.
