Fabs Sydney: Neutral Bay

The suburb of Neutral Bay is located approximately four kilometres north of the Sydney CBD on the northern shores of Sydney Harbour.

It is named after the bay of the same name on Sydney Harbour where the suburb would develop.

The centre of the suburb revolves around the shopping strip that lines Military Road which links the suburb with the city, North Sydney, Mosman and the northern beaches. Many restaurants and cafes line the strip as well.

The Military Road traffic sewer is what prevents Neutral Bay from progressing from a good suburb to a great suburb. The road effectively severs the suburb in two.

Military Road is a bit of a traffic sewer. I remember the day I moved there I couldn't believe the noise it generated, and that was back in 1992. It looks even narrower than Parramatta Road. Most of the suburb is south of the road, though: http://info.id.com.au/dosydney/Defau...g=201&gid=4210

The whole Military Road strip is a bit of a hole really. It's even more dinhgy than mid western Sydney suburbs like Lakemba, where at least you'll experience a bit of culture.

I find the curve at the intersection of Wycombe Rd and Military Rd to be a tough challenge even in the best of times.

If I am right they use lights on the roads to indicate traffic flow.

I find it strange that they also have two Woolworths Supermarkets just metres from each other, on either side of Military Road.

AFAIK eastbound loses a lane and westbound gains an extra lane in the morning peak, due to congestion caused by all the westbound buses that stop there, just before Wycombe Road. The rest of the time it's three lanes each way.

Yeah, I don't know why they have two there now. I wish the new one had been there when I lived there, as I would not have had to cross Military Road. The site previously had a small shopping arcade.
