MALMÖ winter 2011: including train crash, a new art museum and a walk on the ice!

I had 2 unusual photo occasions in Malmö yesterday; the remnants of a train crash and a frozen sea seen from the local beach. The day before I visited the new modern art museum.

A WALK ON THE ICE:

A part of Öresund, the sound between Denmark and Sweden, has frozen.

Thus some people are strolling with their dogs on the ice (I didn’t think it was a good idea to try though) from the Ribbersborg beach, that is located between Turning Torso and Öresundsbron. Last Sunday the ice was crowded with people.

Turning Torso, Scandinavia’s tallest building, looking over the ice.

Öresundsbron – soon we don’t need it anymore, at least in the winter. 

Frozen skyline.

S:t Petri.

Kronprinsen.

Dogs on ice. Malmömässan is now almost torn down.

People looking at the frozen sound.

Frozen shadows. And a dog.

Zlatan’s mansion (the football player).

Fridhemsbo, another luxorious mansion.

TRAIN CRASH MALMÖ C:

Here are some pictures from the X2000 train crash at Malmö Central on New Years Day. Noone was hurt. The cause is unknown. The crash was taking place in the old central hall, above the city tunnel.

X2000 is Sweden’s fast speed trains. It looked much worse when it just happened!

It could have been a disaster if passengers were aboard!

But only the driver was on the train, he was about to move the train when something went wrong.

Media reporting from the accident.

The new ultramodern parking lot outside Malmö C.

View towards the post house and Turning Torso from the same parking lot.

MODERNA MUSÉET

Moderna Muséet, Malmö’s new modern art museum opened in late 2009. It is housed in Rooseum’s former building, that has been refurbished, rebuilt and modernized. Even the street outside has been transformed into a small plaza. I have only visited the museum once so far, during the Alice Neel occasional exhibition.

Modern Muséet, formerly Rooseum, has a new entrance.

The Alice Neel exhibition on the large ground floor, that has a very high ceiling:

Alice Neel was an American painter that mostly became famous for painting provocative portraits of people she knew.

The architecture section of Alice Neel.

Second floor; permanent exhibition, various artists:

On the permanent exhibition on the second floor there are some really famous works by famous artist.

A famous controversial photo of John E Franzén.

A car bonnet.

A portrait remaining Reutersvärd.

“Black and white Marilyn Monroe by Andy Warhol.

Goodbye!

Some new photos:

Thanks, Sydney!
The weather in Malmö is really mild right now:
5 degrees, sunny and no snow!

It says "including train crash, a new art museum and a walk on the ice". The train crash is in the middle section, noone was hurt (otherwise I wouldn't put it in the thread).
