Here are my pictures from Metro Tbilisi (some unfortunately only from the phone):

First what you see there is how deep the metro is on some locations.

Second thing is how ugly and old stations are with old trains and VERY loud ones. You can't even talk to a person who is standing next to you, worse, you can't even hear your own thoughts

What did surprise me the most was the way the trains were all clean.
The system itself isnt beautiful, nor new, but the trains have no scratches or graffitis.
If you compare the Rome metro train, which are ugly and dirty as hell, Tbilisi even with older trains is world class.

Old metro - built in the times when Georgia was 'occupated' by Soviet Union.
Similar (if not identical) to all soviet metros:

Works are ongoing on Tbilisi development plan and of course for city's public transport development master plan. Everything must be ready in 2016.

Was that purposefully made to look depressing? As far as I know, Georgia had a relatively high standard of living during the Soviet era (akin to the Baltics).

Well Lotkini Mountain looked like this the whole time, small private houses on the hill with curvey steep streets with a tramway climbing, quite interesting, picturesque and romantic area of the city to travel with a tram, but you are right the film itself is quite depressing and very sad about a boy who lived in a school for homeless children and was adopted but at the end he runs away from his foster family and u see in this scene he rides the tram away, depressing ending.

Trams stopped running there in September 2001 and since then a lot has changed. This tram line was one of the best and romantic.

Here on Google maps the place where the tram stops. and then rides up in the trees

Are there any news about the new tramway network for Tbilisi? As far as I know, Tbilisi has to reduce emissions of carbon dioxide by 20 percent by 2020 and the proposed tramway network is important to achieve this aim.

Tbilisi Bus Project

Tbilisi City Municipality is applying for loan financing from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development [the Bank] for a project to expand the City’s fleet of CNG buses. The proposed project, which has a total estimated cost of up to EUR 40 million equivalent will require the procurement of the following goods, works and services:

Supply of up to 200 units of low-floor of CNG buses (12 m length) and associated services

Open tendering for the above is expected to commence in November 2015. The contract is expected to be signed in February 2016 subject to confirmation of Bank’s financing.

Interested suppliers shall note that the City requires that the first consignment of buses (at least 70 units) is delivered to Tbilisi by the end of June 2016. When responding to this General Procurement Notice, the companies shall (i) advise their production/ supply capabilities and (ii) confirm whether they could deliver the required quantity of the first consignment or state how many buses they could realistically deliver within the specified time.

Contracts to be financed with the proceeds of a loan from the Bank will be subject to the Bank's Procurement Policies and Rules and will be open to firms from any country. The proceeds of the Bank's loan will not be used for the purpose of any payment to persons or entities, of for any import of goods, if such payment or import is prohibited by a decision of the United Nations Security Council taken under Chapter VII of the Charter of the United Nations or under a law of official regulation of the Purchaser's country.

KTM-5M3 model tram modified as a diesel tram wih 2 doors.

The only tram used to run between 1996-1998 in Gldani district on a dismanteled electric tramway line (in 1990). Tracks in Gldani were cleaned and tram car with a diesel motor started operation there.

Author of the project was Mzia Todua and the constructor of the car Vaja Gvimradze.

Project was financed by United Nations Organisation for 80 000$.

throughout the operational period tram car was victim on a lot vandalism acts from Marshutka (minibus) drivers encouraged by local Deputy of Gldani district who owned private marshutka lines there.

Mzia Todua the author of the tram project was attacked various times also, at the end she gave up with the project because of the threats against her and her children.

In 2000 tracks in Gldani were removed.
