Our Second Community City
in memory of our first try. R.I.P, Port Voyage ~ La Cala
New Atlantis City General information Hello guys ![]() Today i am proudly presenting you the next huge community project of SSC ![]() Basically, it will be a second Port Voyage, based on SketchUp, too. But there will be also two big differences. First, we have learned from our past mistakes. This project will be better managed than our previous city. The second difference is the level of detail. This city will completely consist of high-detailed buildings. Maybe some of you doubt we will be able to render the city. Well, it will be a lot of rendering work needed, but you can go for sure i will give my best. As for the acceptance of new buildings, the management (consisting of Skyman045, Dubai Skyscraper) will decide if we will accept it or not. The map the map was created by pingyao. Feel free to make proposals for locations, what kind of city you want and other general things. ![]() also, there's a height map. the outer parts of the city will be hilly. ![]() How to join this project If you are interested in being part of this outstanding project, read this little guide and start working ![]() How to fill a lot The first thing you must do is to pick up a lot you want to build on. Please take only one or two at the same time. To claim your favouite lot, please show us an image on which you marked the plot. After that, please download this file and open it in SketchUp. Now search your lot on this map and place your building on it. Make a component of the whole lot. Please make sure that the building is covering 100% of the area of your plot! Please take also care that the building has a acceptable level of detail. Once you are finished, purge the file (very important!). Then just upload it on Filefront, Google Warehouse, ect. (NO rapidshare please!) Then we will decide if the building is acceptable or if it needs some reworking. If it is compatible with our expectations, we will save it on our computers. Thanks for your attention, we are looking forward to get your works into the city soon ![]() Elementary knowledge you need to design a high-quality building (this guide was written for advanced designers but can be used by SketchUp experts, too) 1. Rules/ conditions -------------------- 2. Your idea 3. Helpful advice a) Interior details b) Exterior details c) Landscape d) Other things 4. Tricks to reduce the file size 1. To make sure that you are not wasting your time in doing a unacceptable building, you should take care of these few points: -The plots don't have a individual height limit anymore. But the general height limit is 600m. If you really want to make a taller building, you can request for a special permission. -No part of the building is allowed to stick out over the borders of the plot. -Please use material textures only. (e.g. metal, glass, etc. textures are allwoed, while complete facade textures aren't allowed) -Reduce the amount of unneccesary geometry to a minimum. That means you should delete double lines/ faces etc. -Try to keep the file size below 30MB. Larger files are only acceptrable with special permission. Please keep these things in mind. ----------------------------------------- 2. First of all, think a bit about what you're going to do. How tall should the building be? On which lot will it be located? 3. If you have finished with your basic concept, you can start. I don't think you will need much advice for this step. Her're a few things though. a) Interior details Your building doesn't need too many interior details. the only really important things are the floorplates. Simple faces (colored white or grey) are already enough therefor. But feel free to add columns or core walls. b) Exterior details In general, we don't really care about the level of detail. But the building should always look authentic and reaistic from outside. The render I've shown before is a good exmple. c) Landscape After you have finished with the building, you need to create the landscape. If you need trees and other stuff, check out the 3D warehouse. But please use realistic trees etc. only! I will create a public library with good looking outdoor stuff soon. d) Other things -Your building should include one or more entrances. -Don't place any people or cars in your model (important!). 4. -Delete all unnecessary geometry. -Purge your model. -Use components for everything (very important!). This saves a serious amount of time, especially if you are going to edit a frequently occurring part of your model. ---------------------------------------- If you have further questions, feel free to ask ![]() And now, have fun in this project! ![]() ---------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------- Reserved plots map black - completed building received red - reserved by a member blue - sports facilities only yellow - building must include a bus terminal pink - 'times square like' billboard plots purple - railway stations brown - university sandy-brown - EXPO 2024 site ![]() District map ![]() Public Transport System Where should be located subway entrances:

I'm not sure if my buildings will be detailed enough but I'll show you guys and see if you guys think it's acceptable. If it's not, I'll vacate the plot immediately!
![]() For now, the plot in cyan is mine!

i'll think about a monorail/ train/ whatever. you could work out possible routes ![]() and you are allowed to do bridges, too. but not for the moment, i must do the relief and streets first. but i'll let you know once i am finished

Good to see a new city resume. As you can see the map is based more along European city rules, with a historic old quarter in the centre. It was loosely based on Rotterdam and Amsterdam. I'd hope that some sense of realism forms in relation to where the taller buildings should be i.e not in the central oldtown or right out in the suburbs.
How are we planning on showing the roads? Will they be modelled or just have the map as in Port Vayage? It probably needs someone first of all to divide the map up into 1km squares like before. And then the base should be modelled with the river embankments and the terrain. Look forward to seeing how this will evolve... |

but i don't think we need to split the city in 1square-kilometer sections. that would make trouble with splitted plots like in PV. if we want a easy rendering principe, we should try to do without the sections
