HASSAN (Karnataka): National Textile Corporation's New Minerva mill, a Rs 260-crore composite unit for spinning and garmenting at the Hassan SEZ , is likely to start operations by the end of this month.

"Once we start spinning and weaving by the month end, we will produce 10,000 kg of yarn per day and 20,000 meters fabric daily," National Textile Corporation (NTC) Chief General Manager (Technical) M M Chockalingam said.

Of the total expected yarn production of 10,000 kg per day, the company plans to export about 7,000 kg per day.

This is the first unit of state-owned NTC which is located in an SEZ.

Chockalingam said that the unit has been set up to export shirts under NTC brand 'Entyce' to the US and Europe markets. The state-run firm also sell 'Entyce' shirts in the domestic market through its retail stores.

The garmenting process is likely to start in another six months, he said, adding "About 50,000 shirts per day are expected to be produced, once the production starts."

NTC said the Hassan unit has hired about 300 people and the number may double once the unit become fully operational.

Besides the Hassan mill, NTC has two more composite mills -- Raj Nagar Mills in Ahmedabad and Finlay Mills in Maharahstra.

NTC had recently garnered about Rs 2,000 crore from sale of its two defunct mills' land in Mumbai. It plans to use the funds for the company's modernisation and diversification.

With the PWD department providing an all-season asphalt road at a cost of Rs 8.50 crore, travelling to Kemmannugundi Krishnarajendra hill station in Bababudan hills will be a smooth ride.

The 40 km stretch through Bababudan giri, which was previously riddled with potholes, was a nightmare for tourists who thronged the hill station on the weekends. Now, tourists can visit the famous Mullayyana giri, the highest peak in the state and also drive through the hills by easily negotiating the sharp curves while enjoying the scenic beauty of the Western Ghats.

Apart from Mullayyana giri, tourists from Chikmagalur city can also visit the hill top Kavikalgandi, which has a beautiful landscape formed by shoal forests, the Inam Dattatreya peetha, the beautiful Manikyadhara falls and also the naturally-formed Galikere lake nestled in the hills. After seeing these spots, tourists can visit the Kemmannugundi hills, which has thick green forests on both sides of the new road.

‘Chikmagalur roads to be widened’

Chikmagalur, February 23, DHNS:

MLA C T Ravi said that the administration has decided to widen Rathnagiri road and Market Road in Chikmagalur.

Speaking at a meeting with the building owners, he said the Deputy Commissioner will inspect the road either on February 26 or 27 before taking a final decision on road widening. The building owners have suggested to widen the road by 50 feet. However, the district administration has decided to widen the road by 60 feet.

He said talks will be held with the Deputy Commissioner to see that no injustice is meted out to the building owners. A sum of Rs 4 crore has been earmarked for widening. The work on road will be completed from funds from Central Road Development Corporation. The work on drainage will be undertaken under CMC’s KMRP project, he added.

As per the norms of National Highway, in 70 feet wide road, 50 feet must be road and 20 feet must be left for setback, said PWD Engineer Made Gowda. If one goes by the rules, then the authorities will have to pay compensation for land acuqisition. Dr D L Vijaykumar said there are few own houses in Rathnagiri road. Few will lose land. There is no need for widening the road again and again. The decision should be taken in such a way that it will benefit the building owners.

As many as 162 persons reside by the roadside. Of which, 76 persons have encroached the land, said CMC engineer Tejamurthy.

Venkatesh Naidu said without giving any scope for confusion, there is a need to widen road from Syndicate Bank to Town Canteen while widening road from R G Road.

The MLA said that the building owners will be taken to confidence before widening the road. If the owners fail to cooperate, then the district administration will vacate the building, for which the expenditure would have to be borne by the owners, he added.

ಪಶು ಆಹಾರ ಉತ್ಪಾದನಾ ಘಟಕ 45 ಕೋಟಿ ರೂ.ಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ಥಾಪನೆಯಾಗಲಿದ್ದು, ಇದಕ್ಕೆ ಪ್ರಸಕ್ತ ಸಾಲಿನಲ್ಲಿ 20 ಕೋಟಿ ರೂ ನೀಡಲಾಗುವುದು ಎಂದು ತಿಳಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಪ್ರಸಕ್ತ ಸಾಲಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಬಹು ನಿರೀಕ್ಷಿತ ದಂಡಾವತಿ ಯೋಜನೆ ಕಾರ್ಯಾರಂಭಗೊಳ್ಳಲಿದೆ.

ಭದ್ರಾವತಿಯ ಎಂಪಿಎಂ ಕಾರ್ಖಾನೆ ಇಂದು ನಷ್ಟದಲ್ಲಿದ್ದು, ಅದರ ಪುನಶ್ಚೇತನಕ್ಕೆ ಪ್ರಸ್ತಾವ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಲಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಸ್ಪಂದಿಸಿ, 100 ಕೋಟಿ ರೂ ಸಂಪನ್ಮೂಲ ಕ್ರೋಡೀಕರಣಕ್ಕೆ ಮೀಸಲಿಡಲಾಗಿದೆ ಎಂದು ತಿಳಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಅಷ್ಟೇ ಅಲ್ಲ, ಶಿಕಾರಿಪುರದ ಅಂಜನಾಪುರ ಜಲಾಶಯವನ್ನು ಸಮಗ್ರ ಅಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿಪಡಿಸಿ, ಅಲ್ಲಿ ದೋಣಿವಿಹಾರಕ್ಕೂ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆ ಮಾಡಲು ಯೋಜನೆ ರೂಪಿಸಿದೆ.

ಸಾಗರ-ಹೊಸನಗರ ಜನರ ಬಹುನಿರೀಕ್ಷಿತ ಹೊಸನಗರ ತಾಲ್ಲೂಕಿನ ‘ಬೆಕ್ಕೋಡಿ’ ಸೇತುವೆ ನಿರ್ಮಾಣಕ್ಕೆ 25 ಕೋಟಿ ರೂ. ನೀಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಅಷ್ಟೇ ಅಲ್ಲ, ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಗತಿಯಲ್ಲಿರುವ ರೈಲ್ವೆ ಕಾಮಗಾರಿಗಳಿಗೆ ರಾಜ್ಯ ಸರ್ಕಾರದ ಪಾಲಿನ ಹಣ, ವಿಮಾನ ನಿಲ್ದಾಣ ಕಾಮಗಾರಿಗೂ ಹಣ ಮೀಸಲಿಟ್ಟಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಜತೆಗೆ ನಗರದ ಶಿವಗಂಗಾ ಯೋಗ ಟ್ರಸ್ಟ್*ಗೆ 25 ಲಕ್ಷ ರೂ ಮೀಸಲಿಟ್ಟಿದ್ದಾರೆ.
ಸಾವಯವ ಕೃಷಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕ್ರಾಂತಿ ಮಾಡಿದ ತೀರ್ಥಹಳ್ಳಿಯ ಪುರುಷೋತ್ತಮ್*ರಾಯರಿಗೆ ‘ಸಾವಯವ ಕೃಷಿ ರತ್ನ ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿ’ ಹಾಗೂ ಅವರ ಹೆಸರಿನಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಪ್ರತಿಷ್ಠಾನಕ್ಕೆ 10ಲಕ್ಷ ರೂ ಮೀಸಲಿಡಲಾಗಿದೆ.

` 35 cr for rehab of KNP residents

Chikmagalur, March 2, DHNS :

The Central government has released Rs 35 crore for the rehabilitation of 350 families residing inside Kuduremukh National Park, said Deputy Commissioner Channappa Gowda.

Speaking to mediapersons, he said each family is likely to get maximum of Rs 10 lakh each. The compensation amount will be decided on the basis of property owned by the family.
He said the district administration does not have any intention to forcibly remove the families from the Park.

Compensation will be paid to only those families who would like to come out of the Park voluntarily. The government will provide only cash as compensation. The families will have to purchase land from the compensation amount, he informed.

There are 1,200 families residing in Kuduremukh National Park limits. A proposal on rehabilitation on the families will be prepared after discussing it with Karkala Wildlife Division DFO, the DC added.

He said a sum of Rs 49.5 crore has been released by the Union government for the development of Kemmannugundi in Tarikere. Infrastructure facilities will be provided to the tourist at Kemmannugundi, said Channappa Gowda.

‘Lambani road to be concretised’

At least one road in all the Lambani colony will be concreted, said MLA C T Ravi.

Speaking after laying foundation stone to the concrete road work at Chatnapalya colony, he said a sum of Rs 5 lakh has been given for the concrete road.

He said “caste politics was rampant in Sakharayapattana and Lakhya hobli in the past. “However, after I became MLA, I have tried to put an end to animosity and have started development works,” he added.

“Priority will be given to provide basic infrastructure at SC colony,” he said.

Hyde sees Shimoga as potential area for investment

KARWAR: The British high commission in India has recognized Karwar, Shimoga, Hospet and Bellary as potential areas for investment, according to a discussion held with Janardhana Reddy, tourism development minister for mutual cooperation. Tourism development plan can be developed keeping in mind the bio-diversity, forest and environment of Uttara Kannada district, said Richard Hyde, deputy British high commissioner, who was in the district on Monday.

Speaking to mediapersons about exploring business opportunities in the district on Sunday night, during his visit to Karwar, Hyde said the British high commission has branches in almost all cities of India, and they have plans for the industrial and business cooperation between India and United Kingdom.

The Uttara Kannada district has natural beauty, which attracts tourists and has great scope for investors regarding tourism and medical-related projects. Metros like Bangalore, Chennai and Hyderabad have taken away the major chunk of foreign investment. However, Hyde said he was not aware of it and said that there were no plans to aid the state government in developing the forest in Western Ghat areas of the state, adding that the government has enough funds for these projects.

Appreciating the South Indian states he said these states were above poverty line and the well-advanced. To stop brain drain, the British government is encouraging local industrialization. Dismissing claims of some Western leaders that Bangalore has taken away the major part of employment in the guise of outsourcing, Hyde said that it was not true. "Recession is the main reason for unemployment and it can be contained," he said.
