CM's home turf stands to benefit

Quote:
BANGALORE: Chief minister B S Yeddyurappa might shower some goodies on his home-turf Shikaripur on Thursday.

The cabinet, which is meeting in Shikaripur, is likely to a clear cattle feed plant and basic amenities to different slums in BSY's hometown. The plant will be set up in the CM's constituency for Rs 45 crore and the slum project is pegged at Rs 15 crore.

The cabinet will also take away the powers of departmental secretaries in writing remarks after a bill is passed by both houses of the legislature.

Generally, a bill passed by the legislature is forwarded to the governor with a report of the secretary of the department concerned.

However, now, the government feels the question of taking a report from the secretary doesn't arise after the bill is passed, as the legislature is supreme.

As it involves certain powers of the governor, the cabinet in December had taken his approval to issue the notification. For this, the Karnataka government (Transaction of Business) Rules, 1977 should be amended.

My 'ಪಕ್ಕದ ಮನೆ ಹುಡಗ' is now State PUC topper

Bangalore: The topper in the state in Science stream, who has secured 590 out of 600, hails from Hassan district.

Javagal Amith Tejas, who is a student of Venkateshwara PU College Hassan, seemed visibly surprised. "I did not expect I would emerge as a topper. But I was confident of securing above 580. I am really happy today," said Amith.

The first person to see Amith's results on Tuesday was his father Ajjampura Nagaraj himself. Nagaraj is working as an assistant engineer with PWD. "I saw his results through internet in my office and I was so happy to note that he secured 590. But I did not know that he was a topper for the state till I got calls from the press and his lecturers," he said.

Amith's mother Veena is working with the Krishna Law College in Hassan. Amith wants to become a doctor. "I did CET well and want to do medicine. Nowadays, every one is after engineering but I want to become a doctor and serve the society," he said.

And the secret of his success: time management in studies. He used to study at least six hours a day from the beginning. Has he any message? "Those who failed to clear the exams need not be disheartened. This is not the end of their life. They should not lose hope. And those who secured higher marks should not think they are geniuses," he said.

To make Amith perform well in exams, his family had to make little sacrifices. Among them is the removal of cable connection. "The TV was kept adjacent to my room. So I asked my parents to remove the connection," said Amith.

The entire college is happy with Amith's performance. Srihari Venkatesh Toragal, his teacher, said, "Amith was a wonderful student and he wanted to achieve something from the beginning. Today, he has made me proud."

Hassan tops again

With Aniketh's achievement, Hassan has produced toppers in both SSLC and PU. Amit Tejas, a student in Hassan, emerged topper in the science stream of PU.

Aniketh, son of S.N. Satyanarayana, a scientist-engineer at Master Control Facility (MCF) of ISRO in Hassan, and S. Anita, employee of Canara Bank, wants to be aeronautical engineer and work at NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) in the United States.

Aniketh received information of being one of the toppers from his school in the afternoon. He was excited as were his parents.

Mr. Satyanarayana, who was on duty at the MCF, rushed back home to be with his son on the joyous occasion as he received result over phone. His mother Anita had taken a day's leave. “I could not believe when I received the call from the school. I was expecting to be one among the five toppers in the state. I am excited,” said Aniketh. His father also expressed surprise over the results. “This is beyond our expectations,” he said.

Aniketh said he studied for four to five hours a day. “There was no need to take tuitions as teachers at my school took special classes and guided me very well,” he said.

When Aniketh was in the eighth standard he passed the National Talent Search Examination. He has been getting a monthly scholarship of Rs. 500. He has won many prizes in quiz competitions. In the last three years, he has won the first prize in the district level quiz competition.

Plans to popularise Gendekatte Sanctuary in Hassan
Hassan, May 16, DHNS :

Quote:
Planning a picnic in the surrounding areas of the city can be quite a hassle for the public. With the zero maintenance at Maharaja Park- which is in the heart of city, and the project to create a park on lines of Brindavan Gardens at the Hemavathi Dam in Gorur yet to be launched, denizens of the city are wondering where they can take their families for a day-long picnic.

A girl feeding the grass to a spotted deer at Gendekatte Wildlife Sanctuary, in Hassan. Dh photoDespite the issue being raised several times, the City Municipal Council (CMC) is in the least bit interested in developing the city’s only park - the Maharaja Park.
With only the name give it a royal outlook, the environs of the park can only make you wonder why it was named so.

Even though the park once boasted of a beautiful fountain, it is now rusted.
As soon as one enters the park, the tepid smell emanating from the drainage, prevents people from going near it.Hundreds of people flock the park in the morning and evenings - not because it is attractive; it’s because that they have no other option.

The CMC has earmarked Rs one crore in its budgets year after year.
This year it has set aside Rs three crore. Yet there is no visible evidence that work will start to maintain the park.

New hope

However, a proposal by the Forest Department will probably give new hope to people. Forest officials are planning to improve the conditions at Gendkatte Wildlife Sanctuary. In the first installment, birds and swans have been introduced at the sanctuary.

The increase in population of deers to 67 has also brought cheer to the forest officials.

The sanctuary also boasts of a high number of peacocks.

With a rock garden and view point already inaugurated, Forest Minister C H Vijayshankar’s recent visit to the city and promise to take necessary measures to improve the sanctuary has led to forest officials creating a proposal.

With 124 hectares of forest cover, the officials plan to fence the entire area. Assistant Conservator of Forests Purushottam Prabhu said that the department plans to cut the Eucalyptus Trees and plant medicinal and endemic plants.

As the peacocks are found in abundance, a ‘Peacock Sanctuary’ are also being planned. A proposal with an estimated cost of Rs 126 lakh has been sent to the State Government.
Prabhu hopes to develop the sanctuary within a span of five years. He also hopes to include private institutions in its venture to improve the facilities.
