My weekend break in Rio de Janeiro

I spent a weekend in Rio and took some shots from the beach were I stayed: Barra .

The good thing about swimming in the beaches of Rio is that you don´t have to worry about sharks, like in Florida and Australia. Surprisingly, the city of Rio has never had any shark attack in the city´s history, which is something interesting given that there´s a lot of activity in the beaches.

Looks very nice and calm. When looking at these pics it is hard to believe there is another great danger in Rio: not sharks but crime!

when I see pics of Malmo I wonder how can someone live in such a cold city...

I´d much rather live in those nice condos with large balconies and granite facades in front of the green Atlantic ocean in Rio than in any place in Malmo.

As a tourist, I didn´t see any crime in Rio and I felt pretty safe. You just have to avoid the dangerous areas, as in Paris, London or NYC.

When looking at this beautiful pics of a beautiful great south american country, it is really hard for me to believe that there are people so arrogant, condescending and narrow minded that can only come up with sad comments that have nothing to do with the pictures, like "no sharks but crime!", pathetic really...

What I meant with the comment was not to make fun of Rio, I meant that it looks very calm and that the rumour is somewhat exaggerated. I think the rumour is based on favelas, the large gaps between the rich and the poor and the many criminal gangs. But Rio is still one of the most beautiful cities in the world and I have heard that the crime rate has been reduced. I agree with you, I would also prefer to live in Rio then anywhere in northern Europe wintertime, if I don't have to live in a favela.

Then I fell asleep in her arms.
That was happiness then.

many europeans live in Ipanema, which is the most cosmopolitan area of Rio.

Why is it ok to say Australia has a shark problem but not ok to say Rio has a crime problem? None of them is a lie. In fact, I think more people get shot in Rio than eaten by sharks in Australia every year.
Just saying...

In Sweden there is a high level of suicide and we don´t think about that when we see pics from this country.

Why bring that up? Sweden is not even in the top 10:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...y_suicide_rate

http://www.aneki.com/suicide.html

But Sweden has a problem with an increasing crime rate and I would not mind to talk about that, but not in this thread.

Let's leave this discussion now. I explained what I meant in my former comment, the pictures are really nice and I don't want the thread to be spoiled.

Please, respect the other members, this thead is about Rio, here nobody care about suicides rate or the number of solar daylight hours in your country, no more mess and nonsense posts here. When we visit your threads we respect the topic. Be smart and educated
