They will join the fleet in 2016 and 2017. So Airbus will keep producing the ceo well after the neo is introduced.
I still don't get this order. Is this order suppose to hold delta over until they can get production slots for the A320NEO? The planes will be built in the new assembly line in Mobile. Did Airbus negotiate an order with a US/ N or S American customer to train the new employees on the old A320CEO before switching over to the A320NEO. Would Mobile allow more production slots to open up now that Airbus will have four factories cranking out the A320NEO/ CEO. So the customers can get their NEOs faster.

Well, you can use the tiny German flag on the tail and the German registration D-AVZO as indication that it´s Hamburg.

Delta has not shown interest in either neo or MAX, this is not about securing slots. Considering the delivery dates these slots could already have been for the neo but they still chose the ceo.

Delta has a clear policy of acquiring tested designs that might have higher fuel consumption but that have clear lower operating costs on all other accounts. They are cheaper to buy, and since Delta already has a sizable A319 and A320 fleet, this new order for the A321 will just be an addition to this fleet without having to add a proper new subtype with different engines etc.

This has been Delta's strategy for quite some time now, it should be clear how they operate. They only rarely go for the most recent models when they place orders.

For Airbus it doesn't matter really matter if it's a neo or ceo order, the customer is king. And opening up a new factory without closing any other one can only be to increase the production. With the current immensely huge backlog for the A320 it's only logical that they want to increase the production. Boeing is also doing the same for the 737, even though their immensely huge backlog is a bit smaller.

Nice job Airbus for picking up orders from two airlines I have never even heard of before. When will Air China or China Eastern or the other big Chinese airlines place their big orders for the NEO or CEOs that have been rumored. Will other airlines in the Asia region place orders at this airshow or is this mainly a China ordering affair?
