Delta poised to order 30 A321s on top of 40 already on order.

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articl...t-30-a321-jets

These are B757 replacements in essence...heaping further misery on Boeing who do not have a large narrow body offering in the B757 space at present.

US airlines know the B757 space better than anybody and even Bombardier (with a CS300 stretch) are more likely to come up with an offering for them than Boeing are.

The CS500 = CS300 stretch will by far not be large enough to be 757 replacement, simply because it's not 6 abreast. It will be a direct competitor to the A320neo & 737-8 though. But since Bombardier is now not in the financial position to do this stretch it will still only be a competitor on paper for years to come.

Delta also still has plenty of 737-900ERs on order from Boeing. If they now order more A321s it also means that Boeing is not offering bottom prices to every airline.

Meanwhile the saga of the P&W engine fixes for the neo rumbles on. P&W admitted their June 'fix' is an improvement more than a fix.

https://www.flightglobal.com/news/ar...n-half-424321/

And the 3 minute startup 'delay' will come under 2 minutes in June. Qatar will make some interesting noises any day now, loud ones I'd say.

There are some reports that the A320neo has even more issues then just the P&W engine troubles.

"Airbus A320neo has hydraulic noise, temp problems -sources"

http://finance.yahoo.com/news/airbus...131440279.html

Qatar Airways is not happy and is even threatening to replace some A320neo orders with Boeing 737 NG orders.

This is an odd one ( not Qatars CEO shooting his mouth off, the overall story).

http://www.reuters.com/article/us-ai...-idUSKCN0XM1GW

Only 2 operators are flying neos, Lufthansa and Indigo...guess which one is in a hot country and would likely be affected by hydraulic temps.

Quote:
A source close to Airbus said the sound may stand out more because the new engines are quieter.

A source close to Indian budget carrier IndiGo said noise was not a problem and the airline continued to take deliveries.
