A320neo with CFM LEAP-1A engines receives joint EASA and FAA Airworthiness Type Certification

31 MAY 2016 PRESS RELEASE
On 31st May 2016, the world's best-selling single-aisle aircraft, the A320neo, received on-schedule the Type Certification from the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for the second engine option to be certified – CFM International’s* LEAP-1A engine. This certification paves the way for the delivery of the first A320neo equipped with this engine type in mid-2016. This award follows by six months the initial Certificate of Airworthiness received from the EASA and FAA for the A320neo, powered by the Pratt & Whitney engine option. The first A320neo was delivered on 20th January 2016.

Fabrice Brégier, Airbus’ President and Chief Executive Officer said: “This key milestone for the A320neo programme, and its second engine option – the specially developed LEAP-1A, is a double seal of approval by the two major international governing bodies and comes after the A320neo Family had successfully accomplished a rigorous programme of certification trials. We look forward to the entry into service of LEAP-powered models in the very near future.”

The two LEAP-powered aircraft assigned to the flight test campaign have now successfully accumulated over 1,000 flight hours in more than 350 flights – including 150 flight hours completed with the same aircraft in an airline-like environment to ensure operational maturity at entry into service. Certification of the remaining aircraft/engine variants with LEAP engines will follow in the coming months. When all flight testing has been completed, the NEO development fleet (with both engine options) will have achieved a combined total of 3,000 flight hours.

The A320neo Family offers unbeatable fuel efficiency. Featuring latest engine technologies, Sharklet wing-tip devices and cabin innovations, the A320neo Family aircraft offers the lowest operating costs of any single-aisle aircraft delivering 15% fuel burn per seat reduction at entry into service in 2016, and a 20% reduction by 2020. Furthermore, everyone will benefit from the A320neo’s enhanced environmental credentials – which include a significant decrease in C02 emissions and a nearly 50 percent lower noise footprint.

The A320neo Family offers airlines an engine choice between the Pratt & Whitney Pure Power PW1100G-JM and the CFM LEAP-1A engines. With one aircraft in three sizes (A319neo, A320neo, A321neo), the A320neo Family, seating from 100 to 240 passengers, allows operators to match the right aircraft size to demand and seamlessly covers the entire single-aisle segment on low to high-density domestic to longer range routes up to 4,000nm. Thanks to their widest cabin, all members of the A320neo Family offer unmatched comfort in all classes and Airbus’ 18-inch wide seats in economy as standard. Since its launch on 1st December 2010, the A320neo Family has received a tremendous market endorsement with more than 4,500 orders from over 82 customers, representing some 60 percent share of the market.

*CFM International is a 50/50 joint company between GE and Safran Aircraft Engines.

Wow what a great photo Cager. I see 8 A320neos ( Pratt Variants) sitting in storage config behind it with no engines.

I take it Indigo won't be taking any of the 4 shown in the pic, pending engine fixes, beyond the 4 they already have

Spirit are deferring their deliveries in full pending Pratt delivering a better engine and I cannot make out the other three tails, and that's only part of the stored fleet with more stored in Hamburg and probably elsewhere in Toulouse where a senior production officer in Airbus claimed he felt he was making gliders nowadays at a recent company briefing.

OH! And are Pegasus or Frontier getting the first Leap engine neo variant delivery in the next few weeks.????

The other stored A320s are for Volaris and Viva Aerobus. Don't know about Pegasus, but the Frontier Neo delivery should happen in the next few weeks.

Airbus receives 15 A320 aircraft order from AWAS

Ireland-based aircraft leasing company AWAS has placed an order with Airbus for an additional 15 A320 family aircraft, including 12 A320ceo and three A321ceo aircraft. With the latest order, AWAS' collective orders for A320 family aircraft have reached a total of 95 planes, which involves 89 A320 and six A321 aircraft.

AWAS CEO Dave Siegel said: "AWAS is bullish on the A320 and A321 CEO family as its value proposition to airlines remains strong, which is evident in the continued global demand for Airbus single-aisle aircraft. "AWAS is pleased to be able to offer our customers new production CEOs in support of their fleet plans."

The entire A320 aircraft family is equipped with 18in wide seats in economy as standard, and can carry between 100 and 240 passengers from low-density to high-density domestic to longer range routes. Airbus has so far received more than 12,500 orders for A320 aircraft family, and over 7,000 aircraft have been delivered to 400 customer and operators worldwide.

In April, Air Côte D'Ivoire has confirmed an order for two A320neo and two A320 aircraft with Airbus, making the company the first African airline to order the A320neo. Air Côte D'Ivoire currently operates five Airbus aircraft on lease as, well as four A319s and one A320 aircraft.

EASA approves GX Aviation antenna on Lufthansa’s A320 family aircraft

The European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has approved a supplemental type certificate (STC) to Lufthansa Technik to install Inmarsat's Global Xpress (GX) Aviation Ka-band antenna on Lufthansa's Airbus A320 family aircraft. Lufthansa Technik is a maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) services subsidiary of Germany-based airline Lufthansa. Last year, mobile satellite communications provider Inmarsat won a contract to provide GX Aviation in-flight connectivity service on Lufthansa's European continental fleet of more than 150 aircraft.

Inmarsat Aviation president Leo Mondale said: "EASA's certification is an important milestone towards the service launch this year, as the A320 family is a popular workhorse for many airlines, business aviation operators and aircraft lessors. "In addition, single-aisle aircraft as a whole are expected to account for 70% of new deliveries over the next 20 years. This highlights the vast market opportunities opened by this STC, especially as Inmarsat is positioned s the only provider that can serve A320 aircraft on a global basis throughout their lifecycle.

"It is also concrete evidence of the service's growing maturity. We have developed GX Aviation over the past five years as the only end-to-end solution in which every component, from the satellites, ground network and terminals to the cabin networks, internet features and support, has been engineered with mobility in mind to provide a high-quality experience for airline passengers."

The first Lufthansa short-haul and medium-haul aircraft with broadband internet on-board will debut its flight in October, with plans to install the system to other airlines in the Lufthansa Group in the future. It is reported that the new technology will be equipped on the entire fleet of Lufthansa's A320 by mid-2018.

The newly approved STC serves to verify that the modifications to the aircraft, including hardware or software, conform to the design specifications stipulated by EASA, ensuring aircraft's continued airworthiness. Over the coming weeks, the on-board connectivity system will be tested for functionality and stability.

With the help of the new GX Aviation service, passengers will be able to access the internet on-board using their own mobile devices via Wi-Fi. In addition to basic surfing and e-mail, other applications will be possible such as video streaming, SMS and data transfer.

PPG secures FAA approval to repaid cockpit windows for A320 aircraft family

PPG has secured approval of the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to repair sliding and aft fixed cockpit windows for Airbus A320 aircraft family, leading to cost savings for airlines and other aircraft operators.

This approval enables PPG to repair glass window assemblies produced by any manufacturer for Airbus A318, A319, A320 and A321 airplanes, as well as the recently launched new engine option (NEO) family. According to the approved procedures, PPG will replace the glass panels, and reuse and refurbish frame retainers from suppliers.

PPG global director for commercial aircraft transparencies Arthur Scott said: "Operators rely on PPG for its expertise in transparency repair services to reduce their costs. "Being able to offer FAA-approved repairs for the cockpit side windows on these Airbus airplanes gives operators a new option for window maintenance."

PPG performs repairs at its facility in Huntsville, Alabama. This facility has an FAA-licensed repair station, and manufactures original equipment and replacement parts. Cockpit side windows for the Airbus A320 family are being designed with glass panels and retainers as complete assemblies.

In addition to the FAA-approved repair service, PPG offers replacement window assemblies and panels.

Germania Group orders 25 Airbus A320neos (+ 15 Options)

Quote:
http://www.airbus.com/newsevents/new...rbus-a320neos/

Germania Group has placed a firm order for 25 Airbus A320neos. The contract was signed at the Farnborough International Airshow by Karsten Balke, CEO of Germania and S.A.T., and Fabrice Brégier, President and CEO of Airbus.

Germania Group operates an Airbus fleet of ten A319s and five A321s to destinations in Europe, North Africa and the Middle East from mainly German, Swiss and UK bases. Berlin-based Germania is also the charter service provider for Airbus’ double daily flights between its largest production sites in Toulouse and Hamburg.

“We are delighted to continue our successful collaboration with Airbus within the framework of our fleet renewal programme. The order of 25 A320neo fitted with the newest engines from Pratt & Whitney provides a solid basis for Germania’s future business development. We are totally convinced by the technical innovations, as well as by the combination of comfort and economics provided by this aircraft,” said Karsten Balke, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Germania.

“We are delighted that Germania Group has renewed its confidence in Airbus to further expand its Airbus fleet. By operating the A320neo, the airline will benefit from further fuel efficiency and latest cabin innovations with unmatched comfort for their passengers”, said Fabrice Brégier, Airbus President and Chief Executive Officer.

The A320neo Family incorporates latest technologies including new generation engines and Sharklet wing tip devices, which together deliver more than 15 percent in fuel savings from day one and 20 percent by 2020 with further cabin innovations. With more than 4,500 orders received from 82 customers since its launch in 2010, the A320neo Family has captured some 60 percent share of the market.

The A320 Family is the world’s best-selling single aisle product line with almost 12,600 orders since launch and more than 7,100 aircraft delivered to more than 320 operators worldwide. Thanks to their widest cabin, all members of the A320 Family offer unmatched comfort in all classes and Airbus’ 18” wide seats in economy as Standard.

All we know is Al Baker cancelled number one.

Nobody has taken delivery of any of the 'June Fully Fixed by P&W' engined planes that P&W promised. I'm not sure how many of these 'fixed' engines are even mounted on frames right now.

One was engined last month for Lufthansa and flew a lot of hot and cold test sectors, ranging from Iceland to Dubai. It has not flown in 5 or 6 days and nothing has emerged about the tests.

Now if Lufthansa took delivery of that frame ( D-AINC will be the reg) it would indicate something, but they haven't. Neither Go nor Indigo, the other 2 customers with P&W neos to date, have said that deliveries are a full go and Indigo have lots of frames awaiting engines.
