Indigo flight goes off runway in city, pilot hides incident
Hindustan Times

Mumbai, March 10 -- About 140 passengers on board a Mumbai-bound Indigo Airlines flight experienced a major scare on Saturday when the aircraft veered to the left of the runway at after touchdown and broke at least five lights on the edge of the airstrip.

Worse, the pilot did not report the incident. It was only five minutes after the flight had landed that the ATC asked airfield staff to inspect the area as the surface movement radar (SMR) showed that the aircraft had deviated from the centre of the runway.

"The follow-me jeep on inspe-ction found aircraft tyre marks on the shoulder of the runway and broken runway edge lights," said a MIAL spokesperson.

The airfield staff spotted mud marks on the port side outer wheel of the plane, an Airbus A320, added the spokesperson.

The DGCA's preliminary probe found that an aircraft maintenance engineer with the airline had sheepishly changed tyres of the plane without informing airport authorities.

An Indigo Airlines spokesperson said the aircraft faced gusty winds which could have caused the incident.

However, as per the pilot's debriefing report (which HT has seen), the wind was less than five knots, which is negligible for an aircraft such as the A320.

I think what you're referring to would be the A320Neo family of aircraft...

The sharklets are still only an option for the A320, there are new deliveries that don't have them. There also haven't been any A319s and A321s with sharklets that have been delivered to actual costumers, for both types the certification process is still ongoing.

Only with the NEO the sharklets will become standard, but we can expect that most of the remaining standard A320 deliveries will have the sharklets because of the economical benefits they have.

As for the old A320s, there's a retrofit program for the sharklets.

why sharklets on A319, A320, and A321 still only an option? likely QG (CITILINK) have more a320 to deliveries this year without any sharklets on it.

while on Boeing 'Boeing sky interior' become standart.

All the A320s that are now delivered with sharklets have not been ordered as A320s with sharklets. The sharklets have been added to the order, and even though the airlines that have agreed to this option would have gotten a good discount they still had to pay extra for it.

The Sky Interior on the 737 is also still an option and not standard, Ryanair for example has not taken delivery of 1 737 with the Sky Interior yet. Even though most airlines did opt for the Sky Interior making it practice the standard interior right now.

Airbus aims to sell over 200 current A320s this year
Mon, Mar 11, 2013

ORLANDO, Florida (Reuters) - Airbus aims to sell at least 200 current-generation A320 medium-haul passenger jets this year and could reach 300, commercial chief John Leahy said.

In an interview, the European company's top salesman accused Boeing of waging "aggressive" pricing in the jet market's largest segment, where Airbus and Boeing compete for orders estimated at $2 trillion over the next 20 years at list prices.

A top Boeing executive recently told analysts that pricing had stabilized following a bumpy period as the world's dominant planemakers introduced new versions of their best-selling jets.

Turkish Airlines placed a large A321 order today.

firm order:
25x A321ceo
4x A320neo
53x A321neo

options:
35x A321neo

Turkish Airlines places its biggest order ever with Airbus

Up to 117 A320 Family aircraft including first order for the NEO

Turkish Airlines, the largest airline in Turkey, has signed a contract for up to 117 A320 Family aircraft (25 A321ceo, 4 A320neo, 53 A321neo and options for 35 additional A321neo aircraft). This order is the largest ever placed by a Turkish carrier. The engine selection will be made at a later date.

“We are placing our biggest ever order with Airbus,” said Faruk Cizmecioglu, Chief Marketing Officer. “At Turkish Airlines our customers expect the best. The A320 Family with its economic benefits combined with superior cabin comfort will greatly contribute to meet our ambitious growth plans.”

“We are delighted with this new order from Turkish Airlines, which takes us above 2,000 NEO orders in a little over two years after launch” said John Leahy, Airbus Chief Operating Officer, Customers. “This order confirms that the NEO is the most cost effective and profitable solution for airlines with ambitious growth plans. The 15 per cent fuel saving and the widest cabin in its class give Turkish Airlines a big competitive advantage.”

This comes a day after the large Lufthansa order.

Lufthansa Supervisory Board gives go-ahead for major Airbus order

The Lufthansa’s Supervisory Board has approved the acquisition of 100 A320 Family aircraft (35 A320neo, 35 A321neo and 30 A320ceo with Sharklets) and two A380s worth approximately US$ 11.2 billion at list prices. The engine choices will be announced by the airline at a later date.

This latest acquisition reconfirms the Lufthansa Group as Airbus’ largest airline customer, with a total of 532 aircraft ordered. Today the Lufthansa Group is also Airbus’ biggest operator worldwide with 385 Airbus aircraft currently in service. These include: 271 A320 Family, 41 A330s, 63 A340s, and 10 A380s.

‘’The A380 fulfills all our expectations, it’s a very reliable aircraft and our passengers’ feedback is excellent,” said Nico Buchholz, Executive Vice President, Lufthansa Group Fleet Management. “We are delighted to add again two more A380s to our fleet and together with the 100 new A320 Family aircraft these new jets will contribute to cutting our operational costs significantly while reducing our environmental footprint and offering our passengers a benchmark travel comfort thanks to the widest cabins in their respective fleet category.”

“We thank Lufthansa for their continuing strong confidence in our market leading aircraft,“ said John Leahy, Airbus Chief Operating Officer, Customers. “This third A380 order is a clear sign that the aircraft is working well for our prestigious customer Lufthansa. I am equally pleased, that with this order we are getting close to 2,000 NEO orders in just over two years, proving this jet is clearly the single aisle aircraft of choice.”

The A320neo and A320ceo Family aircraft will be used for Lufthansa Groups’ network development and fleet modernisation. While the CEO with Sharklets will deliver a four per cent fuel burn reduction, the NEO will contribute to cutting Lufthansa’s fuel burn by another 15 per cent. On top the A380 demonstrates a 12 per cent fuel burn reduction compared to its nearest competitor.
