Indigo Partners Firms Up 430 Airbus A320neo Order

December 28, 2017

Airbus has firmed up an agreement to sell 430 A320neo-family aircraft to US investment company Indigo Partners in a deal worth USD$49.5 billion at list prices.
The order, which was announced as a Memorandum of Understanding at last month’s Dubai Airshow, is made up of 274 A320neos and 156 A321neos.
The aircraft will be delivered to the investment fund’s low cost airline units - US LCC Frontier Airlines, Chile’s JetSMART, Mexico’s Volaris and Wizz Air in Hungary.
Wizz Air will receive 146 aircraft, 72 A320neos and 74 A321neos; Frontier will get 134, 100 A320neos and 34 A321neos; JetSMART will take 56 A320neo and 14 A321neo aircraft; and Volaris will receive 46 A320neos and 34 A321neos.
Engine selection for the aircraft will be made at a later date.

Another big NEO order, also a few other large ones from others

December 29, 2017

China Aircraft Leasing has ordered 50 Airbus A320neo aircraft in a deal worth USD5.4 billion at list prices.
The announcement brings CAL’s order book with Airbus to 202 aircraft. The latest orders will be delivered by 2023, the lessor said.
China Aircraft Leasing has expanded its fleet to over 100 aircraft since it was founded in 2006.

December 28, 2017

Aircraft lessor AerCap has added a further 50 aircraft order to its Airbus A320neo-family order book, in a deal worth USD$5.4 billion at 2017 list prices.
The purchase agreement, converted from options, takes AerCap's A320neo orders to 270, both owned and still to be delivered.
Chief executive Aengus Kelly noted that AerCap is the largest lessor of the A320neo-family and has already placed three-quarters of the aircraft from its existing order book. “We have seen significant market appetite for these aircraft from our diverse customer base, he said.”

I don't understand why they stopped delivery A320neo to Spirit Airlines? Is that engine issues?

Spirit had lots of engine issues up to last summer like all the early P&W engine operators.

Macron is doing China. Rumours he may announce up to 180 A320 orders and that they will get 2019-20 delivery slots which is the real surprise. Do I detect P&W engine orders?

You are a couple days late, he's already back home.

And Macron did indeed announce an order for 184 A320s, but it's an order that even Airbus wasn't aware of.

"French president’s aide makes announcement during China visit"

"Manufacturer had said earlier that trip produced no new deals"

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/artic...us-planes-soon

So no new orders have come out of this trip.

Yes 13 Chinese airlines will take delivery of the number of A320 mentioned by Macron's aide, they have already ordered them. Airbus also has a significant number of unidentified orders for the A320neo on it's order book.

There are already are and there will be more large orders from China for the A320. But this announcement, which Airbus has flat out denied that it was true, simply turned out to be only political. The general public doesn't know that Chinese orders are often announced multiple times, they don't know that you can go on the Airbus website to see their entire order book. Macron's aide is possibly also someone who doesn't know how it works. A new order could be just his translation of Airbus delivering = selling 184 new, not second hand, A320s to China in 2019 and 2020.

Airbus doesn't even have 184 available slots in 2019 and 2020 for an order to be firmed up in 2018.

In related news China doesn't seem to be in a hurry to take delivery of the neo.

"A350s and CFM-powered A320 & A321neos have yet to be certified in China and they’re starting to pile up at Airbus factories. P&W A321neos only got the nod from CAAC in the closing days of 2017."

Chinese 737s are also piling up at the factory although the CFM MAX was certified in late October.

I think China is mainly reticent about releasing hard currency to buy these a/c at the rate that Airbus and Boeing are building them and that certification delays reflect that fiscal reality in China.

Similar to the Trump announcement - its more to save face for the visiting government - to say they have secured or can formally announce big ticket business deals with China. Sounds good in the news to non-aviation followers
