Here's something that is slowly becoming a rarity from other carriers...

Korean Air B747-400 (reg. HL7461)

American Airlines and Korean Air Form A New Partnership
OneWorld founding member American Airline and SkyTeam founding member Korean Air just announced a ground breaking relationship. Korean Air has temporarily throwing up the white flag as the two airlines have decided to put alliances aside and cooperate on AA’s flights between Dallas /Fort Worth and Seoul’s Incheon airport!

Per the news release

American Airlines and Korean Air have signed an agreement to begin codesharing. Pending regulatory approval, Korean Air will place its code on American Airlines flights between Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) and Incheon International Airport (ICN) in Seoul, South Korea.
….
Once approved, the two carriers plan to sell codeshare flights for travel beginning in April 2015. The new agreement will allow Korean Air SKYPASS members to earn miles when traveling on American-operated flights between DFW and ICN.

American currently operates daily flights between Dallas and Seoul, whereas Korean operates four weekly flights during the winter and upgauges the route to daily starting March 29, 2015. American entered the DFW-ICN market in May of 2013, and has been seeking ways to grow their customer base in Asia as the airline has pushed west from Dallas and expanded with multiple new routes to Asia.

American’s new route has cut away at Korean Air’s market share, as the Dallas Aviation blog reports “Korean carried 114,192 passengers to and from Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport in the 12 months ended November 2014, compared to 140,784 in the 12 months before that.”

For now, ONLY Skypass members will be able to earn miles on AA’s route between DFW and INC and there is no indication that AA will place their flight code on Korean’s route between Dallas and Seoul, or beyond. I have reached out to AA for further information on future plans and cooperation plans between the two airlines.

Korean Air may be a member of the SkyTeam alliance, but it is no secret that the airline has a dysfunctional relationship with Delta who has refused to sign a joint venture between Asia and North America and has slashed Skymiles earning rates for members on Korean Airline flights. This is addition to removing codeshares on a number of flights between the two airlines.

Today’s announcement also included hints at further cooperation as both American and Korean Air executives hinted at strengthening their relationship with better access to other region beyond the initial route,

"The new codeshare cooperation with Korean Air is an important milestone in growing our relationships with carriers around the globe to provide customers access to the destinations they value most," said Kurt Stache, American's senior vice president - Alliances and Partnerships. "This is the next step in strengthening our position in Asia, allowing us to win new customers in the region. We look forward to a strong relationship with Korean Air."

"We look forward to a successful relationship with American Airlines," said Yong Soon Park, Korean Air's Senior Vice President of International Affairs and Alliance. "We are delighted with this partnership which will provide our customers with better access between Korea and the U.S. and to destinations throughout North, Central and South America."

Stay tuned to find out if a deeper partnership will develop between the two airlines and what it will mean for both Skypass and AAdvantage member!

Supposedly Korean Air has done a very poor job of attracting business traffic on the DFW-ICN route (even many Samsung executives use American Airlines to fly from DFW to Seoul), so I can't say I am surprised that it is doing poorly. I am curious to see how it would affect Korean Air's current partnership with Delta and it's standing in the Skyteam alliance however.

It is even more interesting that DFW-ICN is served 4x weekly, as compared to AA doing the same route 5x weekly (neither of them a daily)... perhaps it is with AA's entry into South Korea that forced Korean Air to downgrade its service. Heck, its service to IAH is a daily (it enjoys a monopoly), and its service to ATL (the hub for DL) is also a daily... maybe it's the competition that dragged KE down a bit.

Competition did play a significant role, but even before American Airlines announced the DFW-ICN route, it did not really attract any business travelers and was regarded as mainly serving VFR traffic, and most business travellers even American Airlines/Japan Airlines to travel between Seoul and Dallas and just connected/changed flights at another airport (usually NRT).

Korean Air orders five Boeing 777 freighters
Korean Air has placed an order for five Boeing 777 freighters, valued at more than $1.5 billion at current list prices.

Announcing the deal on Thursday, Boeing said the five 777Fs take Korean Air’s outstanding commitment to nearly 40 aircraft, including 12 777-300ERs, 10 747-8Is, 10 787-9, two 747-8Fs and six 777Fs. A Boeing spokesman said this is a new order—not based on previous commitments, options or purchase rights. He declined to comment on the delivery schedule for the aircraft.

Korean Air, which is one of the world’s largest cargo airlines, currently operates an all-Boeing freighter fleet, comprising 17 747-400Fs, five 747-8Fs and four 777Fs. Its passenger fleet also includes Airbus aircraft.

According to the Boeing World Air Cargo Forecast, global air freight traffic is forecast to grow at an annual rate of 4.7%, doubling the cargo traffic over the next 20 years.

Korean Air does not fly the A380 to Manila from Seoul. They fly to Europe and North America with their A380s.

From which city you'll get the A380: LAX, JFK, or LHR?

That's correct. The ICN-MNL segment gets either:

- Boeing 777-300 (usually)
- Boeing 777-200ER
- Boeing 747-400
- Boeing 777-300ER (not that often)
- Boeing 737-800/900ER (occasionally)

Which one ?

If this --- > "เถลิงประเทศชาติไทย ทวีมีชัย ชโย".
It's from the last part of Thailand national anthem.
And the meaning is "They will serve their country with pride and prestige-full of victory"

Sorry if I misunderstand.
