On the 100th anniversary of commercial flights, airline CEOs weigh in on the coming century

Associated Press
By Scott Mayerowitz, AP Airlines Writer
December 31, 2013

........IN FIVE YEARS:

— Richard Anderson, CEO Delta Air Lines: "Just over a decade ago airlines seemed to be buying every 50-seat aircraft they could get their hands on. But the real utility of those small jets has come and gone and in the next five years we'll see their numbers in the U.S. continue to dwindle."

IN 25 YEARS:
........— Mark Dunkerley, CEO Hawaiian Airlines: "Many of today's consumers will be priced out of the air: a sad legacy to 30 years of massive progress in democratizing air travel. Failure to invest in aviation infrastructure and the insatiable appetite for regulation will not be offset by relatively modest further improvements in aircraft efficiency."

— Jeff Smisek, CEO United Airlines: "The airframe and engine manufacturers continue to develop aircraft that are more fuel-efficient, have lower maintenance costs and have greater range and utility. Longer term, I believe manufacturers will explore engine and airframe technology that could significantly reduce travel times, but advances in this area would have to be safe and economical to make a real impact on our industry."

So I have a question. I landed at Karachi Airport and within 5 minutes a plane landed from the opposite end. Is this normal? Of course, our plane had left the runway by then.

First stats for 2013 (passengers handled) from Brazil:

---------------------------------- 2013 ------- 2012 ----- Growth

Campinas-Viracopos (SP) --- 9.294.446 --- 8.857.252 --- 4,94%

Maringá (PR) ------------------ 728.024 ----- 757.719 --- -3,91%

In 2012, Campinas-Viracopos was the 7th busiest airport and Maringá was the 34th.

By January 20th, we'll have figures for over 90 airports.

The shortest air route in Brazil: Londrina (LDB) - Maringá (MGF). 80 km in 15 min. with Azul's ATR-72:

Taking off in Londrina:

Landing in Maringá:

Watch in HD. Great quality. LDB handled 1.1 million paxs in 2012 and MGF 0.75 million.

Because my statistics are based on monthly numbers, i have only 11 months for that airport.
Plus i have statistics far beyond year 1995

We usually use the airport's blog as the source for monthly numbers. They indeed didn't publish December yet. Info came straight from the airport administrators in an interview.

About figures, do you really have it all? Could you post a list for, let's say, 1970?!?!

i will check for updates and will add MGF asap
well i can go up to 1990 for a brazilian airports (some of them) and further for world airports. Unfortunately not for MGF. Deeper in history harder to find information.

I meant airports in general, not Brazilian only. For instance, can you make a list with the US airports in 1970, 1980, 1990, 2000 and 2010?
