I´m sure there are many interested users out there but they don´t post here because of the mayhem. I'm proposing to have one large regional thread instead of many individual country threads.

From: https://mediacentre.heathrowairport....-2013-7a5.aspx

2013 results:
Heathrow handled 72.3m passengers over 2013, an increase of 3.4% on 2012.
Taking account the dip in demand from the Olympic Games, underlying growth is estimated at 2.3%
Seats per aircraft increased 2.8% on 2012 and the average load factor was 76.4%, up 1 percentage point. Passengers per aircraft rose 3.7% to 154.8.
European traffic in 2013 grew 4.4%, in part a ‘bounce back’ from the Olympics and also benefitting from the integration of bmi into British Airways’ network.
BRIC passengers were up 6.9% over the year, with China up 18.9%, and India up 8.7%.

Excellent aviation news for Paris. According to the airport figures I've checked, it looks like the Paris metro area has risen to 4th place in the world in terms of air passenger traffic in 2013!!

In 2013, the three commercial airports of Paris (CDG, Orly, and Beauvais) had a total traffic of 94,517,000 passengers. This is up +1.95% compared to 2012.

In 2012, Paris was the 5th busiest air hub in the world just behind Atlanta, and with Beijing hot on its heels.

In 2013, air passenger growth in Beijing decreased considerably (only +2.2% for Beijing's main international airport). We don't have the results of the much smaller Beijing Nanyuan airport yet, but both airports should have had less than 90 million passengers combined in 2013.

As for Atlanta, we don't have the December traffic figures yet, but the 11 first months of 2013 have shown passenger traffic declining by 1.7% at Atlanta Airport. In order for Atlanta to have more passengers than the 94,517,000 of Paris, Atlanta needs to have had an exceptionally good month of December. In December 2012, Atlanta had 7,453,000 passengers. If Atlanta managed to keep the same number of passengers in December 2013 (which would run counter to the general declining trend of Atlanta in 2013), then Atlanta would have had 94,028,000 passengers in 2013, which is less than Paris. In order to beat Paris, Atlanta would need to have had a passenger increase of +6.6% in December 2013 compared to December 2012. In November 2013, passenger traffic at Atlanta Airport was down -5.2% compared to November 2013.

So in all likelihood, Paris passed Atlanta in 2013 and is now the 4th busiest air hub in the world behind London, New York, and Tokyo.

About the airport news, São Paulo terminal (Guarulhos, Congonhas, Campinas) is breaking into the Top 10: 62,300,000 passengers in 2013. 6.6% growth over 2012. That's twice more passengers than the second largest hub in Latin America. It's also, by far, the largest hub of the Southern Hemisphere.

Group files to bring back Eastern Air Lines
By Chris Isidore @CNNMoney January 30, 2014: 2:43 PM ET

NEW YORK (CNNMoney)
Plans are underway to bring back Eastern Air Lines, a once iconic airline that last flew in 1991.

Eastern Air Lines Group has filed an application with the Department of Transportation to start service once again. Approval from the department and Federal Aviation Administration is a drawn-out process that can take at least 12 months to complete.

But Ed Wegel. CEO of the group, said the airline hopes to start flights by December of this year. It expects to take delivery of its first plane, an Airbus A320, in August or September.

The airline will be based in Miami. Wegel said no decisions have been made on initial routes, but that the airline plans to restart as a provider of charter services initially, and then build into scheduled service at a yet-to-be-determined date.

Wegel said the group bought the rights to the Eastern name and logo out of bankruptcy court in 2009, but that it had to wait until now to find the investor support needed to restart the airline. Airlines have become more profitable in the last year or two, and airline stocks, traditionally poor performers, have been doing very well recently.

Wegel said it will take additional investor support, likely at least $100 million of capital, to move from charter to schedule service . . . .

Eastern was founded in 1927 and adopted the name in 1930. It was a major carrier along the East Coast, pioneering the shuttle service from New York to Boston and Washington . . . . there were years in the 1980s when Eastern had the most passengers of any U.S. airline due to the shuttle and its extensive Latin American route system. And he said it was once the largest employer in the Miami area, giving it strong name recognition in that market even though it has been nearly a quarter century since its last flight . . . .

On what basis are the Pearl River considered one airport system? Shenzhen Bao'an to Guangzhou Baiyun is a 2 hour drive. That's longer than driving from Philadelphia International Airport to Manhattan, yet Philadelphia isn't in New York's numbers. Getting from Hong Kong Chep Lap Kok to Guangzhou Baiyuin is closer to a 3 hour drive. So all of these airports work independent of one another and specialize in residents of different areas. Nobody in Guangzhou is driving to Hong Kong International Airport or vice-versa. Maybe only select residents in, say, Dongguan have the logistical option of choosing Bao'an or Baiyun. I think Guangzhou-Foshan is the only city-city combination that works though. I agree with the other point you made

Yes you are right, it is not considered as airport system, yet. My point was to show how important is this region in case of air traffic, because it seems this area is slowly becoming first megacity in the world. Thats the reason why it is not "in" the list.
