Five firms in museum race
http://www.telegraphindia.com/111091...y_14522966.jsp
Patna, Sept. 18: The race to design the ambitious New Patliputra Museum has entered its last lap with five international architecture firms and their Indian partners remaining in the fray. The building construction department, responsible for the architect selection process for the museum, released the list of the shortlisted firms on September 18. The selected firms would get over three months to create their design for the international-standard museum on the southern part of Bailey Road. The five short-listed international architecture firms are Austria-based Coop Himmelblau, UK-based Foster and Partners, Japan-based Maki & Associates, Norway-based Snohetta and USA-based Studio Daniel Libeskind. The Indian partner of Coop Himmelblau is ARCHOHM. CP Kukreja & Associates is the Indian partner of Foster and Partners, while the Japan-based firm’s Indian partner is OPOLIS. Indian firm Spacematters will work with Snohetta and Studio Daniel Libeskind’s Indian partner is Morphogenisis. Anjani Kumar Singh, the principal secretary of the state human resource development department and the nodal officer for the New Patliputra Museum project, said: “The five short-listed firms would be given over three months to prepare their designs. Thereafter, the firms would submit their individual request for proposal. The architect whose design would be finally selected would be announced as the recommended architect for the ambitious project.” Singh said the construction of the museum is likely to start in 2012. The deadline to finish the project is 2015. The overall responsibility of developing the new museum is with state department of art, culture and youth affairs. Canada-based Lord Cultural Resources is the master planning consultant for the ambitious project. It is working with the department art, culture and youth affairs and the building construction department for the overall development of the museum. The new museum would have an area of around 15,000sqm. According to sources, the preliminarily estimate for the project is Rs 350 crore. The museum would showcase the state’s rich history. Historical stones, bronze and terracotta sculptures and artefacts related to ancient Patliputra would be on display at the museum. It would also house artefacts of Buddha, Mahavir and Ashoka era. The historic collections would be complemented with audiovisual commentary and some interac- tive activities. The New Patliputra Museum would be based on the green park status of the site. Its building would meet the professional museum standards. The museum would have permanent collection galleries and a temporary exhibition gallery. |

Laser ray focus on heritage
FOR FULL NEWS
http://www.telegraphindia.com/111091...y_14523236.jsp Patna, Sept. 18: History lessons could soon become a source of entertainment in the state. The state tourism department is set to start light, sound and laser shows at historic and archaeological sites at Bodhgaya, Nalanda and Vaishali. The state tourism department recently initiated the process of inviting applications from companies interested to set up the facilities at these places. “Bihar State Tourism Development Corporation (BSTDC) has recently initiated the process of inviting applications from companies interested to start light, sound and laser shows at different sites at Bodhgaya, Nalanda and Vaishali,” said Sunil Kumar “Pintu”, the minister of tourism. The minister added that the final selection of the sites would be done according to the proposals submitted by the interested firms. “The selection of the exact locations for the proposed entertainment shows has not been made yet. It will be done after the firms have submitted their proposals. But we are considering several initial options, including the ancient Nalanda University site, the historical stupas in Vaishali and others,” said Pintu. He added: “One company that is a specialist in this field has recently made demonstrations of equipment to us. We are waiting for more companies to come forward. After going through the presentation made by different companies, we would invite tenders for the work and start the installation work by the end of this year.” The minister also said: “We hope to attract a large number of tourists, both domestic and international, especially from the Buddhist and Jain circuits.” Sources in the tourism department said the agency selected for the job would have to mount laser panels and make arrangements for video projection. It would also have to arrange for light and sound shows at the sites. A gallery for visitors and a control room, approved by an architect, would also have to be set up. Earlier, the BSTDC had invited applications from interested firms to start similar facilities at Pandu Pokhar in Rajgir and Golghar in the state capital. “The proposed shows at Bodhgaya, Nalanda and Vaishali would come up in the second phase. In the first phase, we are set to start such shows at Golghar in Patna and Pandu Pokhar in Rajgir,” said Pintu. |

Great updates vishal and welcome to SSCI adarsh.
About UFO mall, when is the completion date? Plus i hate it that they use wooden scaffolding. No where in the world apart from India have i seen wooden scaffolding before. Why do they do it? Because price shouldnt be the cause of health and safety regulations not being met. |
