I like Leeds city centre. The Queens Hotel is one of my favourite buildings.

I wonder how you do it, making your cities look even more ugly than Germany's, while not being destroyed by Bomber Harris...

I don't think either British or German cities are ugly. There are some really beautiful cities with wellpreserved buildings in both these countries. But most cities have ugly parts, like anywhere.

Fantastic pics! UK cities are far to absent from the Urban Showcase section. I know Leeds has a very bad image on the UK section, but hopefully this thread can change some preconceptions

I'm pretty sure British cities got their fair share of bombing, maybe not quite as much as Dresden though!

Why do you insist on showing the modern tacky side of the city when there is so much old and beautiful that could be shown instead?

Oh come on, why do people complain about pics of a city? If you got some of Leeds then show them. I know the world is a big place but how many people are showing us pics of Leeds, let alone nice ones? If you are into architecture and cities than you would appreciate Leeds, if you like skyscrapers not so much. As far as comparisons to Germany, I'm sure the poster must know that both Germany and England bombed the hell out of each other 70 years ago, and both rebuilt in a vague, semi-serious, we care what people might like to look at, kind of way. Honestly the variations of architecture (along with late night ethnic food) might be the greatest thing about both England and Germany's cities when compared to say Paris or Rome. Atleast whether wanted or not cities in England and Germany were forced to grow and rebuild because of that war, for better or worse.

Are you kidding? British cities got the shit bombed out them during WW2. Dresden was awful, but British towns & cities were bombed for a far more prolonged period and the end results in terms of long term damage were more devastating.

You should learn some history. The British bombed Hamburg to the ground in a few nights killing more people than was killed during the whole Blitz. German cities suffered MUCH more than cities in Britain. It was the modernization after the war that made British cities look like they do today.

Unfortunately I don't think Brtish cities are really under-rated, despite many wonderful buildings etc. there is something boring about them (London excepted) compared to most continental cities of similar size. I guess some German cities are pretty bad because of WW2 devastation (FAR greater destruction than anything in the U.K.) but I generally find the rest of Europe much more interesting than the U.K. That's just my opinion.
