Toledo -Spain

Last week I went to Toledo, 80 km south of Madrid and with a RENFE train I was there in half an hour from Atocha station
Some brief information about Toledo;
Toledo is the capital of a province in the autonomous community of Castilla-La Mancha in Spain. The city is situated on the Tagus River, southwest of the capital Madrid. The city has a rich history and culture, and is also on the World Heritage List of UNESCO. Toledo is one of the oldest cities in Spain and has about 80,000 inhabitants.

1. My journey began at Atocha Train Station, inside and outside worth viewing!

2. From the station you can take a shuttle to the old town, but that piece of walking (10 minutes) is definitely worth it.

3. first real view of the city, this area lies just outside the old part, the tower you see is part of Hospital Tavera.

4.

5. first view of the Old Town with its castle Alcazar!

6.

7. Bridge to the old city gate.

8. Restaurante la Cubana, the tower top right is from Academia Infantería.,

9.

10. 20 degrees in January is your friend in Spain.

11. Many narrow streets in Toledo, with views on the Cathedral of Santa Maria de Toledo.

12. and then suddenly you see a German-looking house.

13. many beautiful views from the old town.

14.

15. The tower, I think a former church now serves as a hotel!

16. Castle of San Servando, nearly 1000 years old, served as a monastery and fortress, now a youth hostel and rooms rented out, unfortunately it was not open to visitors.

17.

18. River Tagus.

19. again, with the beautiful building of the Academia de Infantería on the hill.

20. They do this in a nice way here.

21. then it was time to go back to Madrid.

22.

23. the Tagus with the Castle again.

24. in the background the tower of the railway station!

25. And with 280 km / ph back to madrid! : Cheers:

Soon a series of Madrid and I hope that this series is worth about Toledo, and comments are always welcome!

Lovely pictures. You´ve caught the spirit of the city. It´s really a very special place. Once I was told that Toledo has the biggest old city center well preserved in Europe after Rome.

Very nice the pix in black and white.

Waiting for more pictures...

Very beautiful. How much is a train ticket to Toledo from Madrid and back (roundtrip)?

Lovely pictures, Harky.

It can be cheaper if you buy it in advance.

The maximum advance is two months and can be much less.

But for that you need to know when you´re going to Toledo, of course.

If you´re not in a hurry you can save a lot of money and go to Toledo very comfortably.

There´s a new high speed train to Valencia now that takes 90 minutes to go there. The cheapest go and back are 65 euros.

Madrid has algo high speed trains to Barcelona, Segovia, Cuenca, Málaga, Seville, etc.

Harky, you´re pictures are really nice. More? Please.
