Nigeria hosted the Festival of Arts(FESTAC) in 1977 the second of this event. The symbol Nigeria used to advertise this event was the mask of Queen Idia...thus the mask was later dubbed the Festac mask - and is one the great treasures of Nigeria...with controversy surrounding it's THEFT and potential auction

Niger Delta struggle
The Niger Delta is the worlds third biggest Delta with massive oil reserves...after the peacful protests of Ken Saro Wiwa a new movement began - more violent and a frustrated one that fought both the oil companies and Nigeria for the damages to their environment and allocation of Deltas resources. ![]() ![]() The famous former Groundnut Pyramids - during Nigerias agriculture days Nigeria was the top exporter of Ground nut and palm oil. These groundnut pyramids were once considered for being inducted into the one of the wonders of the world ![]() ![]()

Naija/Cameroonian even though he identified as a Nigerian due to being raised there
LOL Naijaborn so u no sabi Fela and Wole be kith and kin before? na wa o they have rebel blood in their veins lol, they family have always fought against Nigerias 'leaders'. Even Fela's mother slapped the Oba of Lagos or is it Benin because he was not catering to the people - I'm sure that's where Fela got his wildness from

A parting gift from our former colonial 'fathers':
NIGERIA’S OLD NATIONAL ANTHEM [Adopted 1960] Nigeria, We Hail Thee! This anthem was adopted as our official national anthem until 1978 from October 1, 1960 when Nigeria obtained its independence from Great Britain. Lillian Jean Williams, a British expatriate that lived in Nigeria at the time, wrote the words and the music was composed by Frances Berda. Nigeria we hail thee Our own dear native land Though tribe and tongue may differ In brotherhood we stand Nigerians all and proud to serve Our sovereign motherland Our flag shall be a symbol That truth and justice reign In peace or battle honour And this we count as gain To pass unto our children A banner without stain O God of all creation Grant this our one request Help us to build a nation Where no man is oppressed And so with peace and plenty Nigeria may be blessed http://www.nigerianmuse.com/20071008...rrent-and-old/ Nigerias colonial flag Last edited by Sokotocaliphate; January 22nd, 2011 at 03:54 AM. |

Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti - The mother of Fela Kuti and the first female driver in Africa. If you thought Fela was a rebel lol well the apple does not fall too far from the tree, bearing in mind she was a female living in 19th Century Nigeria with very 21st century views...girl power!!
