Leoben, Austria

Leoben is a small industrial city with a population of about 25,000 inhabitants, located in the province of Styria. It's best known as a center for mining and metallurgic industries, and is home to a mining university of world renown.

To the average tourist that may not sound too thrilling, but the beautiful historic center is definitely worth a short visit, and because of its small size and walkable distances, you don't need a lot of time to take in most of the sights. See for yourselves....

Probably layed out with grandeur like lots of EU smaller cities because they wanted to go with the bigger cities...Architecture to impress.
I myself live in a small city of 39.000 inhab and monumental architecture is everywhere along big avenues...Golden periods of the past.

I'm not sure, but it might be that certain parts at the edge belong to neighboring towns. On Google Maps it's not clear where the city line is and whether something is a district within the city or an independent town. Anyway, my guess would be that the entire urban area has well over 25k inhabitants.

Never been there, but it looks quite nice. I like the combination of historic and modern architecture.
