the ugliest structure you have ever seen? And we are to believe that? I'm sure your locality has plenty. Sounds like trolling to me.

It is a sculpture by one of the worlds leading sculptors Anish Kapoor, Beijing has a nasty habit of scaring her artists.

Art is obviously subjective but requires only a minimal amount of intellect and openness to appreciate.

You know Potto, I agree with everything you say about Art. And this technically is a sculpture. But it sure in hell is an ugly one. I wish, for the life of me, that I could love this piece of art and I am very open minded to art. But despite the fact that it is technically a sculpture, due to it's size, scale and the fact people can go up it, it is still a tower to me. And as far as towers go, this is the ugliest I have seen built in recent memory. It reminds me of a cheap fun fair structure, only larger.

It's interesting... I'll grant you that.

But it's still ugly.

I do fear, Londoners will be spending far too much time defending this structure as I suspect few people who come to London or see the Olympics on television will appreciate the artistic side of it.

I guess that's because despite it being interesting, it is still butt ugly.

...edit. I tried again. I looked at it from different photos and different angles... it's still ugly to me.

well then if you appreciate art then you just have to say ‘big deal’? Why not appreciate its fascinating twisted engineering instead? It is easy.

You hear plenty of people describing something as 'ugly' especially in art galleries, but then only the philistine, fascist or someone with a hidden agenda would then extrapolate that to declare the entire art gallery as ugly or a waste of space and effort. As did the poster from Taipei.

i think this "thing" could had been from exterior view more interesting to look with a grey colour!

This red paint give it a non serious aspect close to a cartoon that disable it to be well perceived.

It is profoundly the ugliest structure of the world. Only Questions remain:

Why would someone build such a object?
What is the purpose of having such an ugly building?
Why didn't they put up a sky scraper or something that can be at least viewable?
Who could ever come up with such a thing?
Do the designers of this have souls?
Is it a miracle from ...?
Does it attract aliens?
Is it an alien?
Is there anyone who really beliefs in their hart that it looks somewhat OK?
When are they going to put a cloth over it?
Is it going to be a tent?
Which dicktator ordered this construction?
Who lost her tampon?
Why is it red?
Why is there?
Does it decrease the value of all the properties that surround it?
Why is it that it looks like a earring?
Is midlife crisis caused by this structure?

The list goes on and on.......

eiffiel tower was also described as an ugly structure when it was first constructed.

Oh, come on! Are you serious? The Eiffel Tower was not popular at first, because it back then featured an ultra modern, never before seen design, construction method and material, in a time, where design/architecture was still deeply rooted in tradition and already reused for centuries.
Architecture was most of all something for the eye (the late 19th century pushed that to the top). The Eiffel Tower, though still pleasing to the eye, was more about function. It was a revolution!

THAT abomination is neither ultra modern, nor pleasing to eye, nor has it any revolutionary function besides being some kind of funfair attraction.
It's insulting to seriously compare a world wonder with the Orbit.

What's next, compairing that hideous clocktower in Mecca with Big Ben?

^ no body claimed or is claiming the orbit will be as famous as the eiffiel tower, have you read our earlier posts yet? go back and have a look at them if you are utterly clueless about what people on here have been discussing. yes this tower will not only provide a fantastic birds eye view for the international visitors also give a great opportunity for camera men/crews to take breathtaking aerial shots during the game as well. does it require or is it just unnecessary tower? it will be useful as i have explained above. why is it too ugly? beauty is in the eye of the beholder therefore i have no intention to continue this debate.
