from BBC 2012 On a tour of the park, Paul Deighton tells journalists: "The Anish Kapoor piece (the Orbit Tower) should be finished in May - hopefully 1 May in time for test events.

Olympic Opening Ceremony to be called "Isles Of Wonder"

was just thinking.. Every Olympic Stadium has a 'cauldron' which stays alight throughout the Olympics (lit by the Olympic Torch). I'm struggling to see where this might go inside the Olympic Stadium, so maybe this structure is to hold the Olympic flame? They may have chosen to this so that it is visible from the whole Olympic Park, not just the stadium. The thing that made me think this is the small white platform thing on top of the Viewing Platform

No, this isn't the Olympic Cauldron.

thats the damper platform for steadying the tower in stormy conditions

Official completion in May before the Mayoral election but won't be open to the public until the start of the Games, although there may be private events between those dates.
