this was the viewing platform before they boarded it up. i'm hoping it will resemble this when finished as it's less overbearing:

first thing i saw was post #561 and thought it was a roller coaster...now very sad to discover that it's not. with curves like that it could've been a competitor to Air at Alton Towers. what a waste

The London Olympic Committee were high on drugs when they approved the construction of this disaster. It's. so. freakin. ugly.

It will also look better when the cranes and everything else around it has gone... it makes it more cluttered. If that's possible.

Chalk this one up to those whacky English eccentrics.

Sorry, I worded my last post very badly. It was approved by them, but it wasn't their idea, their design process.

What I meant to get across was this wasn't the ODA's project, or London 2012's for that matter unlike the sports venues, the park itself etc.

This was foistered upon the ODA by the Mayor. The design competition had already been held and this was the result.

In short, Boris said to the ODA "make this happen" and it has happened.

And since this was a pet project of the Mayor it didn't have a lot of difficulty getting through planning.

liked this original - thought the Orbit could be taller - think the Orbit is very eccentrically British.
