Rail Budget: Not a steep fare hike, but a 5-15% change

This translates into a 5 t0 7 percent hike for sleeper class in the case of Express Trains, a 10 to 11 percent hike for AC Three Tier, 12 percent for AC II and 14 to 15 percent for AC I.

I am a bit happy with this year's railway budget as,

Finally the rail services to my native is given green signal by extending B'lore -Shimoga train to Talguppa .

Extremely Disappointed as there is no mention ofCommuter Rail Service for Bengalooru in this year's railway budget .

Taluguppa extension is awesome... Did you see the number of trains/extensions for karnataka? Atlast one minister from karnataka who is going all out for his state..Muniyappa really deserves to be praised for this..will list all the karnataka benefits in the sub forum..

One can equally credit Talguppa line to Current State Govt's active participation for completion of long delayed gauge conversion too . Earlier Mysore's train was extended; now its the turn of Bengalooru's train.

Looks like Didi is going to bring down the government bcos she made the 'mistake' of appointing one decent guy from her party as the Railway Minister.

"How dare he do the right thing by raising prices? Is the government here to do the right thing? Who cares if Railways falls apart or there are 10 accidents a month? Sack the minister ! Sack the government ! "

Congress agrees to Mamata Banerjee's demand

TMC supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee spoke to Congress leadership in Delhi to press for removal of Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi and is said to have been assured that it will be done.

Mamata's call to the Congress leadership followed her letter earlier Prime Minister Manmohan Singh seeking replacement of Trivedi with another TMC nominee Mukul Roy after he had proposed a hike in passenger fares in the Railway Budget.

It was not clear as to who in the Congress Mamata spoke but sources said it was not the Prime Minister.

Mamata is said to have been assured that Trivedi will be replaced by Roy, currently Minister of State for Shipping, after the presentation of the General Budget by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee on Friday.

In fact, Mukul Roy would be replying to the Railway Budgetary Demands for Grants before this month-end, highly placed TMC sources said.

Extension of the railway line from SRIKALAHASTHI TO TIRUVALLUR VIA kOTHAKANDRIGA, RAGIGUNTA, k.v.b. PURAM, PICHATUR, NAGALAPURAM, UTHUKOTTAI is a long pending demand of the people from South india. The negative planning of Tamil nadu government in suppressing growth in it's north and West of Chennai city has resulted in neglecting these parts which are now growing rapidly. In view of theup coming Manufacturing investment region these lines are necessary

Malur to Hosur Via Bagalur

Hosur to Jolarpet via Krishnagiri which was Planned by TN / SR Railways .

These above lines will cater to TN,AP and KA states . All these lines are at respective state Borders.

Hoping IR will take these lines in subsequent Railway Budgets.

chennai - delhi rajdhani daily
chennai - mumbai duronto
chennai - amritsar
chennai - porbandar
chennai - udaipur
chennai - bikaner

one more railway line between chennai and madurai

two extra railway lines between chennai and sullurupeta for running of more local trains

anna nagar railway station which nows lies unused can be used for running local trains to gummidipoondi and velachery

the following new trains are needed for coimbatore

coimbatore - indore
coimbatore - howrah

finally railway should stop the practice of extending trains meant for tamilnadu to kerala and also not run train through kerala to tamilnadu like the tirunelveli bilaspur express instead trains like this should be operated through madurai, coimbatore to bilaspur.

2. Improve infracture in Tricy work shop to manufacture BG coaches (Already having facility to manfacture container carring goods wagons)
3. construct fulfledged coaching facilities in Tambaram, Virudhunagar, Karaikudi, Second coaching for coimbatore
4. Identify areas for more coaching facilities across TN
