thats cause frequency on the harbour line is shit. Have a look at the timetable yourself. CR (mainline) and WR are fine.

the newly built Thane-Vashi-Panvel route needs more trains and is extremely popular. It needs an investment of a dedicated fast track to supplement it IMO.

on the pune issue, trains currently make it from CST to Pune in about 3 hours 15 min . Which is OK. I just want the frequency increased. Cost too is not that big an issue IMO. They can reduce it to maybe 2 hours and 30min if they invest in the track, but its not that major. There is a cost for everybody on those trains.

Youth lay a novel track of protest

A Correspondent

KALPETTA: Demanding a railway line between Nilambur in Malappuram district and Nanjangud in Karnataka, which, if laid, will pass through Wayanad district, hundreds of youths staged a novel protest here on Monday evening.

Under the aegis of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) district committee, they formed a kilometre-long symbolic human railway line on National Highway 212.

Wish there were a nonStop Duronto between Secunderabad and Vizag that covers the distance in 12 hours so that a pair of durontos can be run in both directions twice every day.

I expect the Railway minister to announce the same things which were announced by her and before by laloo....like world class stations, private public partnership....the same things are repeated every year....but I wonder if any money is actually alloted and implemented...the WB state elections will be a factor this year...

No thanks. if we wanted it we would have got it long back. suburban trains are crude and outdated.

Orissa asks Rs 2085 crore in the coming railway budget

http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/...ow/7374526.cms

BHUBANESWAR: Claiming to be a victim of negligence in Railway budgets, Orissa government has demanded an allocation of at least Rs 2085 crore for the state in the current financial year for various railway projects against the demand for Rs 1805 crore in the last fiscal. The projects include new rail links, extension of existing rail links, improvement in passenger amenities, introduction of new trains and increase in frequency of trains.

Last year the Naveen Patnaik government cried foul play from the railways’ raw deal when the state got only about Rs 836.64 crore including Rs 430 crore for completion of the ongoing new lines and Rs 421.73 crore for doubling of the tracks. Mr Patnaik has been seeking a special railway package for the state in view of the fast pace of industrialization.

This time, the state government has sought Rs 250 crore for the 82 km long Paradeep-Haridaspur rail link, Rs 350 crore for the 289 km Khurda Road-Bolangir rail link, Rs 150 crore each for the 90 km Angul-Duburi-Sukinda Road rail line and 154 km Talcher-Bimalagarh (rail line and Rs 60 crore for the 56 km Lanjigarh Road-Junagarh rail link. Similarly, the state has sought Rs 20 crore for the gauge conversion of 89-km Rupsa-Bangriposi and Rs 30 crore for the 90-km Nuapada-Gunupur.

As presently some 20 doubling projects are under execution in order to further augment line capacity the state government has requested the Ministry of Railways to allot Rs 760 crore. It called for allocation of funds for the second bridge on Kathajori and Kauakhai and Haridaspur-Jakhapura (third line).

Karnataka State wants 18 new trains

BANGALORE: The Union railway ministry is gearing up to prepare the budget for 2011-12 and Karnataka has put forth its demand for 18 new trains to be included in the plan. The state has also decided to take up the issue of including the long-pending demand for direct rail connectivity between Hyderabad-Karanatak and Mumbai-karnatak regions in the coming fiscal plan.

In a letter to railway ministers Mamta Baneerjee and K H Muniyappa, BJP leader V Dhananjaya Kumar, special representative of Karnataka in New Delhi, has requested to arrange for a meeting of railway board members in the first week of February to discuss pending and new railway projects to be included in the railway budget. "Karnataka MPs would also exert pressure on the Centre to get the state's due in railway development, particularly in neglected regions,'' he said.

The state has proposed 18 new mail and express trains for the Bangalore-Delhi Durranto, Yeshwantpur-Shirdi, Yeshwantpur-Sholapur, Karwar-Mangalore-Bangalore, Yeshwantpur-Amritsar, Gulbarga-Bangalore, Mysore-Arsikere, Marikuppam-Bangalore, Kolar-Bangalore, Bangalore-Bagalkot-Bijapur, Bangalore-Belgaum-Miraj, Shimoga-Harihara, Whitefield-Kolar, Davangere-Tumkur, Gadag-Haveri, Bijapur-Shahabad, Dharwad-Belgaum and Hassan-Bangalore routes. It has also requested to take up a survey on the Bangalkot-Raichur, Gulbarga-Bijapur and Koppal-Singanur lines.

Kumar added that the government has already set aside its share of Rs 600 crore to take up new projects, including those on the Bidar-Gulbarga, Munirabad-Mehboobnagar, Rayadurga-Tumkur and Kadur-Chikmagalur-Sakleshpur lines.

The problem with KA's train infrastructure is that currently most of the trains connect to Blr originate from the neighboring southern states. The # of trains travel through KA north Blr to MH and other states is generally less. If I remember correctly, about a decade ago, there was no direct train between Blr and Kol. People used Chn as the connecting hub for that route. Blr Junction station used to be empty for most part of the day.

Right now, with a KA minister in the railways, there is a good chance of getting many of these demands met. On the other hand, the bitter rivalry between the parties in the State and Center could hamper the progress.
