1st hybrid buses in PH to roll out in Makati
Quote:
The country’s first-ever hybrid bus service will be piloted in Makati City, according to Green Frog Transport Corp., the company that bagged the franchise for the transport line last week.

Green Frog said the buses will ply the route from Buendia (Tramo/LRT Taft) to Kalayaan (C5), which are considered among the busiest in the city’s central business district, cutting through other major roads like South Superhighway; Chino Roces, Ayala and Makati Avenues; Paseo de Roxas and Edsa.

Green Frog said the buses are parallel electric hybrids or the type simultaneously powered by an electric motor and a Euro 3 diesel motor.

Their hybrid system is made in the United States by one of the largest parts suppliers in the world, the brakes are German-made while the lithium ion batteries are from Japan, the company said.

The low-emission buses will use tap payment cards and are also fitted with closed-circuit television cameras (CCTVs) to monitor activity in vehicle from six viewpoints.
High-powered air conditioners will maintain the temperature at a comfortable 22 degrees Centigrade, while the vehicles’ movements will be monitored through a global positioning system.

There will be “color-coded seats” for the elderly, pregnant women and people with disabilities; space for luggage and shopping bags; and low floors for easy entry and exit.
The route will have 17 bus stops in each direction. The service will start with two buses but 13 units will be added within six months, Green Frog added.

There are also plans to open two more hybrid bus routes in Makati within the next 12 months.

Plus, may drivers don't have discipline. They just do what they want.

Finally! These are the upgrades i was looking forward to see in the philippine mass transit.

Another thing i am looking forward to is the installments of safety/emergency cables, telephone or hand held phone/radio communication system at the driver's cockpit, and the Stop Buttons/Cables.

The Emergency Cables are for anti-harassment or any other type of emergency situation inside the bus.

Stop Buttons, so no need to yell "Stop", just press the button and there will be an indicator coming out visible at the driver's cockpit telling the driver to stop at the next Bus Stop.

Ofcourse these extra features should come along next time.

I'm sure ganun din gagawin sa pilipinas and i hope.

In other words this bus of green frog is more useful in highway driving such as
Manila to laguna route or provincial route.

More ideal if they choose series type hybrid, coz it fare better for stop and go
situation.

Anyway once they will add unit they can used series type hybrid for urban setting where stop and go is common.

Yup but there are 2 basic type of bus uses for mass or public transit:

1. Coach Bus: Equipped with 1 entrance/exit door, normally being used for long travel between 2 or more cities/states/province.

2. Street Bus: Equipped with 1 entrance and 1 exit doors, normally that travel around the city or within the city. Street Buses can be converted into double deckers, articulated, and for BRT use.

Yang Green Frog Bus are for street use. You can distinguish it for its 2 doors (1 entrance, 1 exit) and its hard seats with the coin/fare dispenser. Coach Buses doesn't use any of those coin/fare dispenser because they are prepaid. So this bus is not equipped for long distance travel/service.

Yup, we know that the car body is configured for urban setting type, but according to their website facebook page, the power train of the bus which i am
talking, not the body type is parallel hybrid bus, in which the advantages of (parallel) is greater fuel efficiency at constant high speed compared to series type.

(parallel hybrid bus)

I dont know if there facebook pages is accurate.

I think the parallel and series types you are referring to are how the fuel cells are configured. Mas malakas nga ang power ng series which is more ideal for stop's and go's than a parallel system. Reason is in parallel the motor only uses the power from one of several fuel cells while the other act as back ups which constantly charges the one in use. That's how i understand it.

(ICE) diesel type at motor/generator and battery.

And both type also employed power electronic converter system for their
electric power regulation.

Thanks for clarifying.
