Vazhuthacaud, Trivandrum: Four faces prominent in various fields in Malayalam Cinema lighted the inaugural lamp of ‘Images 2011’ - the first Female Film Festival in Kerala - at the Kalabhavan Theatre, on Friday.

Dubbing artist Bhagyalakshmy, film producer Revathy Chandran, documentary film-maker Shiny Jacob Benjamin, and actor Gayathri together inaugurated the four-day festival, in the presence of other dignitaries such as KR Mohanan, chairman of Kerala State Chalachitra Academy, TN Murali, VK Joseph, vice-chairman of Kerala State Chalachitra Academy and PS Sreekala, general convener of the fest.

The festival is organised by the Kerala Sthree Padana Kendram, in association with the Cultural Affairs Department, Government of Kerala, the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy and the Federation of Film Societies of India.

The audio of Mohabbath was launched on Friday at Co operative bank towers, Trivandrum.

Speaker K.Radhakrishnan handed over the first copy to Congress leader G.Karthikeyan. Meera Jasmine, Munna, T.N.Prathapan MLA were also present in the function.

East Coast Vijayan directed musical love story will be released on March 18th.

Music director S. Balakrishnan composes the music after a big break.

One of the highlights of the CD is Mamta's presence. This is the first time Mamta is singing for a movie in which she is not acting.

August Cinema the producers of Santosh Sivan's period drama Urumi are planning to hold a very big audio launch of the film in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday March 6.

The capital city has been chosen as it is the home town of one of its producers and hero of the film Prithviraj.

Urumi has music by Deepak Dev , a former keyboard player of AR Rahman.

There are four very good songs in the film, which are sure going to be chartbusters.

The background score of the film has already caught on thanks to the one minute promo trailer of the film.

The Urumi audio is being released through Manorama Music. As per sources close to the producers, the Thiruvananthapuram audio function will be on a grand scale, with all stars from the film likely to attend the show.

August Cinema is releasing Urumi on March 31, worldwide.

Prithviraj has given priority dates to his favourite director Deepu Karunakaran, who gave him his biggest hit Puthiyamugham.

Prithvi needs a hit badly after a series of flops. So he has gone out of his way to do a Deepu Karunakaran film Thejabhai.

Deepu last film with Dileep Crazy Gopalan too was a hit.

Deepu Karunakaran's Thejabhai will start rolling in Trivandrum from next week. Akhila who has debuted through Karyasthan is the heroine.

Prithviraj the man who would be the king after M & M's (Mammootty & Mohanlal) period gets over, and whose name has been linked to some of the most beautiful leading ladies has fallen in love with a Mumbai based television news journalist!!

Raju as he is called at home is a very private person and had kept the affair under the wraps from the media glare all these months. Almost every weekend he used to fly in to Mumbai to meet his lady love.

Prithvi who at best of times had a "love hate" relationship with the media, is supposed to have been totally floored by this lady, a brilliant TV reporter.

He met her more than a year back when she was reporting for a famous English news channel on south cinema.

As per our impeccable sources, what attracted the most "eligible bachelor in Kerala" to this news television reporter was her "intellect and she had a lot in common with the star".

Prithviraj's family especially his mother Mallika Sukumaran has no objection to her son marrying the smart young journalist as she is a Malayalee Menon girl!

Our sources have indicated that Prithviraj will most likely have a "very private wedding" in April 2011, attended by a few of his close friends and family.

Later he will hold a big reception in his home town of Thiruvananthapuram for industry people and his legion of fans.

Trivandrum: One of the oldest cinema halls in the city and a landmark most movie buffs would easily recognise, Sree Padmanabha gets more than a fresh coat of paint. With new plush seating and interiors, it promises comfortable seating and facilities for all classes - whether reserved or balcony.

“We are trying to provide the same facilities to the reserved class that are available for the gallery,” said Girish Chandran, partner of Sree Padmanabha theatre. “If you look at the newly placed seats you can feel the difference. Earlier we were using seats of rexin make but now we have replaced them with cushion,” he said. The cinema hall is expected to be ready to host the first show by the end of April.

“It is lucky that our audience demands less but we have the responsibility to provide them with a comfortable seating,” he continued. Even though Sree Padmanabha now boasts of the kind of seats that are available at Multiplexes, they have no intentions of raising ticket charges. “A hike is necessary, but we do not plan to implement it alone. Let others do it first and we will follow them,” said Gireesh who has been running this cinema since the early 90s.

The innovative Sree Padmanabha is the first cinema to introduce an e-mail system to interact with the public. “We are trying to be more and more user friendly by developing a healthy relation with our customers,” said Gireesh. He also said that the response towards the e-mail system was awesome. “We received a lot of messages regarding the quality of our theatre. While some said that this was the best in the state, others pointed out areas where we needed to improve. I’m really happy to say that all those queries have been addressed by the management,” he said.

Whenever a film completes 100 days, children from orphanages in the city are provided with free food and a show. “We should consider these children too. They too are part of our society,” Gireesh said.

Kerala Tourism's much-acclaimed ad film "Your Moment is Waiting", has won the Golden City Gate award, dubbed the Oscar of travel..

The film bagged one of the three awards in the three categories of TV commercial films at the world's leading travel trade show ITB Berlin last week, an official press release said here today.

''We are honoured by the award, which is a prestigious prize in the travel industry. This is the second time Kerala Tourism has received this award,'' Kerala Tourism Director Mr M Sivasankar said.

Mr Sivasankar received the award from President of the Golden City Gate jury, Mr Wolfgang Jo Huschert.

The winners were picked by an international jury, which considered visual performance, acoustic overall impression, emotional effect, value of information, conception and creativity.

Santhosh Sivan's magnum opus Prithviraj starrer URUMI produced by August Cinema is confirmed to release in 70 screens in Kerala on March 31.
There is a lot of hype around this Prithviraj, Genelia, Prabhu Deva, Arya, Nithya Menen movie which has hit music by Deepak Dev.
URUMI is likely to be censored in Thiruvananthapuram on Monday, March 28. The film is being shown in two or more screens only in Thiruvananthapuram (Sreepadmanabha and Sree) Ernakulam (Padma, Sridhar, Oberon Mall and Q Cinema) and Kozhikode (Kairali and Sree).
As per trade sources "the idea seems to have a limited release hoping that word-of-mouth makes it a hit".
Santhosh Sivan, one of the producers and distributors said:URUMI is targeted at mass audience since it embraces songs action and has very interesting actors from all over India. The film is a tale of romance, friendship, revenge, and traces the arrival of the first white man, the gun, canon and other early weapons of war. It has all potential to be a big hit".

It took roots here with the likes of Prem Nazir, Priyadarshan, Mohanlal… all hailing from this city. Not to forget the video shops and theatres like Sree Kumar/Vishak and Padmanabha, which were my favourite haunts and which still are. Trivandrum planted the seeds of cinema in me and I had to nurture it.”

Trivandrum Is The Place To Grow Up: Muthukad

Years later the Malappuramkaaran (native of Malappuram) reached Trivandrum because of one man. Malayattoor Ramakrishnan. Muthukad would fondly reminisce the beginning of their friendship. “I love literature and writers. So I have this habit of forcing myself on writers. That is how I met people like ONV Kurup. Then one day, when I was chatting with writer Chemmanam Chacko, he got a call from Malayattoor Ramakrishnan. So I grabbed the chance to meet him and I performed magic for him. When I went home to Malappuram there was a letter from him saying that we have to meet again.”

That was only the beginning. Their friendship grew strong enough to bring Muthukad to the capital city, and together they launched Magic Academy in 1996. Malayattoor was the chairman and Muthukad, the executive director. Fourteen years later, the academy is known worldwide. This year it crossed yet another milestone by conducting the first magic convention for women. It was under the interest of this great magician from Kerala that women magicians from all over the world gathered in Trivandrum to show the world that magic was not meant exclusively for men.
