LIVE from Dojinsphere | Doujin Manga&Fan-arts, Comiket, Vocaloid, Touhou, iM@S, Cosplay, Pixiv, Nicovideo
"doujin/同人" is best described as fan-arts of published works (books, manga, moving pictures, and recently games) and it has always been "hidden" as closed circles of ardent fans. Doujin existed since Meiji era or even earlier, but things are taking a slightly different turn now. The Internetz...
Kadokawa coming to officially acknowledge MADs after Haruhi Suzumiya series catching huge popularity through fan-arts, BandaiNamco organizing live concerts to imitate the hundreds of fan-made IdolM@ster videos, karaoke shops trying to secure contracts with elusive doujin groups to get Touhou songs in their system, a voice synthesizer software (Vocaloid) being in direct competition with pop stars on weekly "ORICON chart" ranking of CD sales --- this is no longer a meme but a MODE or TREND. (流行) #Most materials here are NOT produced by professionals, companies or any profit organizations, but regular individuals. For commercially produced anime, games, manga etc, please find them in other relevant threads. よっしゃいくぞーーー!!! (大音量推奨) Last edited by 2co2co; February 6th, 2011 at 02:47 AM. |

Among the Gosanke (Big 3), I'm predominantly into iM@S, the iDOLM@STER. (Well, at least I was until the 9/18 incident.)
I like quite a few numbers of noveM@s (iM@S fanfiction visual novel movies), but they require Japanese literacy. So I'll link to some PV MADs (sorts of AMVs) here. Some rock: Who Put The Bomp? by Hebo Peanuts P (Song by Me First and the Gimme Gimmes) Ryūkō (Vogue) by Wakamura P (Song by Ringo Shena feat. Mummy-D) Jukai no Ito (Thread From the Forest) by Jan P (Song by Cocco) Some dance: Eple (song by Röyksopp) and my song (official song from iM@S) mashed up, by TPTP This one is must-see. http://b.hatena.ne.jp/entry/www.nico...tch/sm11774487 WARP by Kemono-michi o Gyakusō P (Song by The Bloody Beetroots ft. Steve Aoki) no, no, works. by Kinōbi P (Unnamed original song by KinōbiP) This is a noveM@s, but the music and the visual are still fun to watch even if you don't know what's going on. (And the story too, if you do know.) Rap: Kōsha -The Latter- by Nemu P (Song by Schadaraparr) ...And some ads: By Puttsun P Okay, this again is a noveM@s, but the masterpiece still needs to be mentioned. (And this is a fanmade CG animation!) 3A07 ~Memories are here~ by team gippurya Really, you've got to see this (the 3 parts of them) if you had interests in iM@S, even the remotest. Luckily, it's fansubbed. |

Touhou Project have much larger international fan base than iM@S. (In fact, outside of Japan, it seems the iDOLM@STER often means Xenoglassia, not the game!)
Bad Apple!! PV by Anira (Song by Alstroemeria Records, arranged from the official Touhou game song) This one, even its derivative appeared on CNN, is considered to be the masterpiece among Touhou fans. It may be hard to understand why if you don't know much about the genre, but you'll worship the video if you were already familiar with the characters, and knew the fact this was made by a fan, with completely original CGs. (Touhou's official "CGs" are something like this.) The video, BTW, is actually based on this fanmade Compare the two.My favorite Touhou fan-works are again story MADs which are in Japanese. Instead, fan-arranged (very heavily arranged, that is) game songs are popular among international Touhou fans. (They very much are in Japan, too.) In fact, the above clip is meant to be a fan-made PV of the song arranged by another fan. Two famous fan-arranged songs: Marisa wa Taihen na Mono o Nusunde Ikimashita (Marisa Stole the Precious Thing) by IOSYS Usatei by IOSYS Now you know I'm pretty much an IOSYS fanboy. Vocaloids undoubtedly enjoy the largest international fan base among the three. The thing is, I'm much less into Vocaloids. So I'll just link to my best favorite Miku song. I'm sure 2co2co can add thousands more gems from this genre. Hatsune Miku no Shōshitsu (The Disappearance of Miku Hatsune) by cosMo@Bōsō P feat. Miku Hatsune (The song is awarded with mutiple fan-made video clips. This one is by HOMBRE.) |

Touhou is awesome. I haven't played their games but man the music they make is awesome.
I heard that Touhou is making an anime/cartoon. That would be epic P.S. Btw, I have a question: Who or what is this Hatsune Miku? And what is this Vocaloid thing and why are many people (primarily otakus) addicted to it? Thanks

![]() http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vocaloid Recently, the primary fanbase of Vocaloid is not otaku, but teenage girls. This was unthinkable 2 years ago... The music industry is extremely excited and cautious at this, because Vocaloid and Doujin are so paradigm-changing that their business models need major changes. A bit old, but Taiwan.... ![]() |

Wotagei dance
Quote:
Copied from Wikipedia"wotagei" is often seen as a over-excited idiocy by idol fans (of AKB or Mo-musu) in live concerts. But things started changing in mid-2009 when someone chose anime characters as his favorite idols and choreographed anime, seiyuu and "character theme" songs to go with glowstick wotagei. And now we have a second-generation wotagei. This is still a "work in progress". 1'50"~ 黒子にささげるローマーンスッ! What are those Mexicans doing!?!? みーーきてぃ!、 みーーきてぃ!、 みーーきてぃ! I feel like listening to more of Iosys songs tonight, so here you go.
Some from their comedy side... Cirno no Perfect Sansū Kyōshitsu (Cirno's Perfect Math Class) Hatate no Bakkoi Satsujin Jiken (Hatate's C'mon Murder Case) Kyūri-aji no Bīru o Nome Ba Ii Yo! (Drink the Cucumber Flavored Beer!) Kabushiki Gaisha Border Shōji Shaka (Border Trading Co., Ltd. Company Song) Murasame United: Masaka no Alice Totsugeki-hen (Murasame United: The Unbelievable Alice Assault) Gensōkyō in da house. Onna to Onna no Border Game (Woman and Woman's Border Game) A parody of old style Japanese pop. ...And some from their serious side. (It's funny that English fansubs become rare to none for their serious songs.) Madoite Kitare, Yūda na Kami-kakushi -Border of Death (Bewildering Impending Spiriting Away -Border of Death) Kuroi Hoshi (Black Star) Bad Apple & Good Orange The video is a parody of the famous Bad Apple!!, but this song is quite cool in its own right. Ame no Hi no Kanojo wa. (On a Rainy Day, She is...) Sakura no Kioku (Memory of Cherry Blossoms) Hey, no one translated this lyrics yet? That's a shame... Kioku no Keifu -until the End of History (Geneology of Memories -until the End of History) |

I recently saw this iDOLM@STER (iM@s) video.
iDOLM@STER Ni-sen Jū Ichi Nen Shimo Hanki NicoM@s Ni-ju-ssen Matome Dōga Vol.1 (iDOLM@STER 2011 Later Half NicoM@s Best 20 Vol.1) http://nicoviewer.net/sm17152001 - Watching many good NicoM@s (=fanmade iM@S videos on Nico Nico Douga) videos on the ranking, I thought I might pick my favorite 20 videos of last year. No.20: Yukai ja nō Summer Party Ni-sen Jū-ichi ("It's so fun!" Summer Party 2011) by various artists A compilation video tributed to late Shigeru Sugiura, a manga artist who was influential from 1940s to 1960s. http://nicoviewer.net/sm15017521 No.19: Here It Goes Again by Obandō P Song: "Here It Goes Again" by OK Go A parody of the original video clip. No.18: Yukiho on Space by Ittsu P Song: "Cats on Mars" by Yōko Kanno A song from good old Cowboy Bebop. (The video is completely unrelated, though.) No.17: "Ohayō! Asa Gohan" Sōchi ("Good Morning! Breakfast" System) by 2000 Song: "Ohayō! Asa Gohan" (Good Morning! Breakfast) by Yayoi Takatsuki The iM@s version of Rube Goldberg machine, known as PythagoraSwitch in Japan. http://nicoviewer.net/sm15514510 No.16: ( ゚3゚)Pyu Pyu Pyūi Pyu Pyu Pyū ( :-" Pu Pu Pewee Pu Pu Pew) by Regumin P Song: "Shopping Mania" by Serani Poji スイーツ(笑) http://nicoviewer.net/sm14030461 No.15: Home Haruka-san no "Mirai Sentai Timeranger" (Home Haruka-san's "Mirai Sentai Timeranger") by Mumumu P Song: "Jikū -Mirai Sentai Timeranger" (Time and Space -Future Force Time Rangers) by Kumi Sasaki A parody of the sentai series opening. But in this case, everyone seems to transform something waker and wackier. http://nicoviewer.net/sm15268905 No.14: NONOWIRE 11 by TPTP Song: Unnamed remix by TPTP This is an announcement video of NoNoWire, the NicoM@s techno "event". Yet the announcement video itself is a vey good techno iM@s AMV. No.13: Kiban o Kaeru to Eizō ga Kawaru no wa Pure iM@s-kai de wa Jōshiki desu (Every iM@s Enthusiasts Know the Fact That Changing a Board Will Change Graphic) by Enshinryoku P Song: N/A (A sort of NoveM@s) * You won't enjoy this one unless you speak Japanese. A parody of Car Graphic TV, Japanese car enthusiast program known for its calm narration. But the dialog here is more of a hilarious parody of "pure audio fans" (audiophils), who are known for sticking to something extremely dubious, like "sound changes when you change the length of the cables". http://nicoviewer.net/sm15492403 No.12: Me ga Shinderu Senshuken (Dead Eyes Championship) by anonymous Song: "End of World" by Nekomata Master Simply the most bizarre video in this ranking. No.11: sweetgravity by FRISKP Song: "sweet gravity" by DE DE MOUSE This Japanese techno song is too cool, while the video ain't bad either. |

No.10: Chira-mi Satellite (Glimpsing Satellite) by Hachiya
Song: "Live In My Head" by Zoot Woman From the video artist's comment: "I just want to watch Haruka, but..." http://nicoviewer.net/sm15236505 No.9: Namco Pro "Daylight" (Studio Namco "Daylight") by Tsubame P Song: "Daylight" by Sekaiichi Just a collection of screen captures from the original game, yet the video depicts the lives of the idols vividly. http://nicoviewer.net/sm16301481 No.8: P.N.E. by Machibon P Song: "Chemical Calisthenics" by Blackalicious Because they are cute anime-style girls, iM@s idols generally don't go well with Hip Hop. Conversely, when they dare make "r@p m@ster" video, it means they are confident. Cool, as Iori says. http://nicoviewer.net/sm16024206 No.7: Idol ni "Red Hot" o Yatte Moratta (I Asked Idols to do "Red Hot") by Akino P Song: "Red Hot" by ELLEGARDEN Nice MMD video, reminds me of KyoAni animation of K-On! or Haruhi Suzumiya. (Yeah, this video is an amateur 3D animation, not some scenes taken from the original game!) No.6: Zettai ni Waratte wa Ikenai Tantei (Detectives Who are Forbidden to Laugh) series by Fusion P Song: N/A (NoveM@s) * You won't enjoy this one unless you speak Japanese. A parody of the famous comedy show "Down Town no Gaki no Tsukai ya Arahende!", this is the funniest NoveM@s series of 2011. (And the funniest of 2010 was "San-byaku no Shitsumon" (300 Questions) series by Harrier P, another parody of GakiTsuka.) http://nicoviewer.net/sm13969113 No.5: Magu-lori Quartet (Tuna Lori Quartet) by OGOP Song: "Maguro" (Tuna) by cali≠gari An interesting AMV, of Japanese underground rock band. Not necessarily visually stunning, but the video is somehow addictive. By the way, among train workers, the word "maguro" is used to mean "dead body of suicide victim", so go figure. http://nicoviewer.net/sm16441486 No.4: Amamispotting by Po P Song: "Lust For Life Remix" by Iggy Pop The video is not that related to Trainspotting, except of the song and one famous scene. This one excels most other MMD videos as it depicts everyday life scenes of the idols, not just dancing and singing. No.3: SPLICING REEL by Ringo P Song: "Derezzed" by Daft Punk Tron meets iM@s. Undoubtedly the most visually stunning NicoM@s video of 2011. No.2: The Shouty Track by Kemono Michi o Gyakusō P Song: "The Shouty Track" by Lemon Jelly Well, I just love Kemono Michi o Gyakusō P, so this can't be helped. No.1: one' room exit. by Kinōbi P Song: Unnamed original by Kinōbi P (NoveM@s) * But you can still enjoy this one even if you don't speak Japanese. Perhaps not the most gorgeous (like No.3), but definately the most original. The original (and funny) story style, original visual, and original music. Kinōbi P is a genre in his own right. (The video is from 02:55) |

April 1st, 16:00, Akiba, photo by me:
These are called "Itasha (痛車)" - anime-wrapped cars. The emerging fanbase of itasha came into the public eye when Miku-wrapped BMW raced in Super GT 2009. Nowadays, numerous fan-sites and vendors exist (eg. http://www.itasya.net/) and assembling the materials to transform your car into an Itasha is not hard anymore. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
