I have no information on expansion plans for BTS Skytrain. Bangkok has two rail transit networks, BTS and MRT. Expansion plans for the two systems seem to be a function of which party controls the government.

Let's see.

The discussion was about the monorail lines in Chongqing, which led some monorail skeptics to express their distaste for elevated transit systems, which led to concurrence that elevated systems weren't suitable for places such as the centers of historic cities, which led to a discussion about an elevated metro line along a historic avenue in Paris, which led to a discussion of how some people actually saw an advantage in having the street shaded by Skytrain in Bangkok, which led to a question about the expansion of Skytrain in Bangkok ...

Why do you ask?

He asks because through his question he is politely trying to mention that this is the wrong thread to talk about this... and I think he is right. Back to Chongqing.

Good! Then the generalized anti-monorail rants are off-topic.

Can't wait to see it by myself. Chongqing is particularly exciting by its mountains and complex altitude changes.

MTR signs agreement with Chongqing
24 Jul 2014

CHINA: MTR Corp signed a memorandum of understanding on July 23 with the Chongqing municipal government for rail and property development in the municipality.

Under the terms of the agreement, MTR will discuss the potential for investment, construction and operation of one or more metro lines in the city. The authorities are also interested in residential, retail and office developments around stations and depots on the basis of MTR’s rail-plus-property model successfully harnessed by MTR in Hong Kong over many years.

The city of 30 million has a 170 km metro network, with plans to expand this to 300 km by 2020.
