Chongqing Line 3 is the longest Monorail in the world . The 55.5 KM monorail line provide smooth service (but crowded) service everyday form 29 Sept 2011 . A big part of the roue is elevated , so it just like a roller coaster going up and down .
The 6-car rolling stock in the pic is made by Changchun Railway Vehicles .

NiuJiaoTuo (牛角沱) Sta. , the interchange sta. of Line 2 and Line 3 .
The curve platform of Line 3 is shown in this pic . In rush hour , people should be careful the gap between the train and platform . Platform screen doors are equipped .

Also , curve platform of Line 2 . Currently , the 4 car-train and 6-car train both operating on the line . It has reserved space for 8-car train .

The bridge of monorail and road across Yangtze River . This section is wonderful . Its hard to image in the other cities in China that a rail transit cross over a building . The landscape is amazing !

A train leaving NiuJiaoTuo Sta. . Like other rail transit system , the number of rolling stock is marked on it's head . "03" for Line 3 , "07" for the 7th train , and "01" for the 1st carriage .

Another train of line 3 with adds on the bridge crossing Jialing River .

The most unique transport in China I think --- The cable car above Yangtze River . linking both side of the river , it is one of the ways to commte in ChongQing . Even there are bridges across Yangtze River , the cable car still popular . But most of the passengers are tourists.

While the number of planned lines and where they will go was already known, this is the first time a full planning map including all the proposed stations is published.

I believe you didn't get the question right. kunming tiger was asking for the total planned length, which is a whooping (for the rest of the world, not according to Chinese standards) 838 kilometers. And 'soon' may be as late as 2050.

Chongqing Changchun Railway Vehicles Co., Ltd. is planning to build monorail systems for other Chinese cities. The new monorail systems will use slightly smaller, automated trains. I can't wait to find out where these monorails will be built!

On May 19th the new-generation straddle-type monorail train was on display at the exhibition stand of Chongqing City Transportation Development & Investment Group Co., Ltd. The new train has driverless control with an emergency traction function, which, with a smaller turning radius, is more suitable for the landform of Chongqing. ...

The model is expected to be put into production by the end of the year, with the project matching the related departments in Guizhou already conducted. (Translated by Tang Zhiqiang, Fathom Language Limited)

Monorail in the forest

Photoed by @雪岭居士

This section of track of Line 2 is near FoTuGuan(佛图关)Sta. In the forest in FoTuGuan Park , at the central part of ChongQing Urban area .
Some trains on Line 2 are covered by adds .

I'm willing to live there.

Currently both 4-car train and 6-car train operating on Line 2 . The platform is available for 8-car train .So Line 2 have a lot potential capacity to deal with passengers growth .

As if you can touch the trees when you open the window of the train (surely you could not do this , LOL)

Monorail above the main street . What a beautiful scenario .

The pillars of the elevated track are covered by Parthenocissus tricuspidata . When you travel to China , you will found many cities using this plant to decorate the pillars of the elevated road etc .

Kimchi Media Introduces Chongqing Metro
After launching Nanjing Metro just one week ago, today we’re proud to announce our second Chinese city: Chongqing Metro!

Being just a few months older than the Nanjing Metro, with its 201.6 km (125.3 mi) of total length, it’s the oldest metro system in western China.

Chongqing is not the usual metropolis, as it is criss-crossed by numerous hills, mountains and rivers:
building a rail way system in this city is not an easy feat.

As of today, the Chongqing Metro holds various records, among them:
  • Busiest Monorail Line: Line 3 (over 600'000 passengers/day);
  • Largest Monorail System: Line 2 and Line 3;
  • Longest straddle-beam Monorail Line: Line 3;

With a new airport branch planned to be added to Line 3 this December, the Chongqing Rail System will extend and open several new lines in less than two years:
  • Line 4, 9 stations, will make the eastern side of Chongqing more accessible;
  • The Circle Line will open its first arc (phase I);
  • Line 5, 25 stations, will travel from the The Expo Garden (Line 3) all the way to the city south-eastern side;
  • Line 10, 19 stations, will connect Line 6 and Line 3 on the Northern side of Chongqing before crossing the city center;

Download Chongqing Metro on the App Store, free.

Spoiler alert: I'm the developer
Please let me know what you guys think!

Have a nice day~

I remember plans for line 9 originally ended at Shapingba. Now there will be two stations beyond that.

As for openings for current year, there is not much: the Airport branch of line 3 from Bijin to Jurenba, now under testing. 2017 will see more openings, with parts of lines 0 (circle), 4, 5 and 10 as well as the line 1 extension to Bishan all planned to open.

More specifically, the ditiezu.com community speculates an opening date around December 12th (a.k.a. exactly 3 months after the tests have started).

Following the groudbreaking of line 9, today construction has started on phase 2 of the Shaheba branch of line 6 (This time it will reach Shaheba for good) and phase 2 of line 10.
http://www.cqmetro.cn/wwwroot_releas...w/335631.shtml (Chinese, literally)

Of note: There won't be two stations named Caojiawan anymore! And thank god they have included some maps, it is almost impossible to pinpoint where Shaheba station will be located using only current maps.

what about the eastern extension of line 1 to Chaotianmen? That's been on the drawing boards for years.

That is part of a larger development of Chaotiamen. There is a massive highrise development which is still underconstruction. This has disrupted the tourist trade and bus depot that was located here, so the passenger need is also reduced.
