Warning! this is double thread... If you want to, rename it either circle line (MRT 2) or Selayang-Pandan line (MRT 3)

After that, for 2nd phase (2020 onward), they will close the loop from Ampang to Sentul Timur...currently they still studying possible site for Circle Line MRT depot.

Firstly, apologies. Didn't know this was a new thread, thought it was a response in the existing thread. That said, shall focus more on MRT2 from here on.
Isn't that why they're building a depot at Putra Heights now? Then the "Ampang line" could operate out of that while the Ampang depot could be used for MRT2. That also means that MRT2 would take over Maluri station, effectively meaning that the current "Ampang line", from here on referred to as Sri Petaling line, will not have a direct transfer to the MRT1 line. |

How many stations and km is the current Ampang branch of the "Ampang line"? Perhaps a good estimate of the remainder of phase 1 can be obtained from there afterwards.

Having Chan Sow Lin as the integration point means that the alignment would go so far away from the western edge of the Sg Besi Airstrip redevelopment. Maybe they can go straight southwest to the Cheras station and then continue along the ERL & KTM tracks straight to midvalley. As there would be cross platform interchanges between some of these planned MRT lines (KLFID), there's little doubt that it would be a 4-long car trains all around. Not so good news for those pushing for 6-car trains. My gut feeling tells me that we wont be seeing the MRT 2/3 anytime soon unless the financing parts and PDP terms got sorted out for the MRT1 and is a viable model for all the following lines. So all these SPAD plans may end up being academic at the end. But I might be wrong anyway. |

It is time for KLCC to get another line as there are several higher density (tall buildings) developments being planned or constructed and also for such area which is the landmark of KL, access via rail to KLCC is very limited, i.e only west-east on Kelana Jaya line.
Ideally, 2nd line that passes through KLCC should be of north-south axis. |

MRT3 integrates with the KJ Line at Kampung Baru, that's the plan anyway, in line with the Kg Baru redevelopment.

allurban, didn't you mention that monorail has insufficient capacity? While I agree that terrain-wise, it is better suited to the region, but I also feel that integrating MRT2 with the Ampang branch would be a better solution in the long-term. Capacity is already there along the Ampang branch and integrating it with MRT2 would allow for a better utilisation of facilities and capacity.

![]() Well, if it is built as heavy capacity monorail ala Hitachi system in Chongqing or the Bombardier Innovia monorail in Sao Paulo, the capacity is pretty good. |

The most ideal would be somehow combining the old monorail line with the new one to build a complete circle line - then the switches at the terminals would no longer be a limiting factor, since there would be no terminals ![]() If that is the case then capacity can be increased by upgrading the signalling system Cheers, m

Could work, but then you only serve the western half of KL? If integrated with the Ampang branch, it serves the eastern side too and provides connections that allow people to avoid the city-centre areas. Also, I guess its good to eliminate the nasty switches. But then aren't you limited as well? Trains can't cross to the other track and if there's a disruption, one-way service only. Even then, maybe not, depending if an evacuation is necessary to another train. There was really not a lot of foresight in the revived monorail plan.
