I wish the best and the reliable to be chosen, although admittedly the fact that Bombardier does not make it into final shortlist is very disappointing.

Final value of MRT Line to be known by year-end
By Sharen Kaur Published: 2012/06/22
http://www.btimes.com.my/Current_New...HAREN/Article/

MASS Rapid Transit Corp Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) said the final value of the 51km Sg Buloh-Kajang (SBK) MRT Line will be determined by the end of this year, when all the 85 contracts are awarded.

So far, MRT Corp has awarded 31 contracts valued at RM13.83 billion, said its director for strategic communications and public relations Amir Mahmood Razak.

Amir said there are 23 contracts in the process of evaluation, and they will be awarded soon.

Among them include the RM1.6 billion contract to supply trains for the Sg Buloh-Kajang line, which will be awarded by end-July, Amir said.

MRT Corp received bids from Changchun Railways Vehicle Co Ltd, Siemens SMH Rail Consortium and CSR Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Co Ltd to supply the trains.

Three other groups who said they would bid but pulled out from the tender were Kawasaki Heavy Industries Rolling Stock Co, Bombardier Transportation and Hyundai Rotem Co.

"We are disappointed that only three groups have bid for the rolling stocks. We are evaluating the proposals and will award the job next month," Amir said.

Amir is confident that phase one of the MRT line 1 from Sg Buloh to Semantan will be operational by December 2016, and phase two, from Kajang to Taman Maluri, by June 2017.

He was speaking yesterday at a briefing by Sunway Construction Sdn Bhd on its RM1.17 billion contract (package V4) for the MRT line.

Sunway Construction was awarded package V4 in May this year, to build a 6.6km viaduct and other associated works between Section 17 in Petaling Jaya and the Semantan Portal, where the alignment will continue underground.

Three stations will sit along this segment of the line, namely Section 16, Pusat Bandar Damansara and Semantan, with a provisional station at Bukit Kiara.

Kwan Foh-Kwai, the managing director for Sunway's construction division said works on package V4 commenced on June 18, and will be completed by December 2015.

He expects the contract to start contributing to the company's revenue and net profit from this year onwards.

What about the underground portion between Maluri to KL Sentral? No dates given? Phase 3?

Bukit Bintang Plaza Akan Dirobohkan Tahun Depan Untuk Projek MRT

- BERNAMA

I do not understand, and cannot continue to understand, why must MRT project take overs building for construction? Many MRT projects in China, Taiwan, etc do not take so many buildings for construction. They just occupied some of the major roads for construction. The MRT route can be built under major roads, and that need not take over buildings.

Anyway, everything is money talks. And, there are so many stories can be heard in coffee shops for the projects. Not the good stories, unfortunately.

It's final: Bukit Bintang Plaza to be demolished next year for MRT project
The Star | Updated: Tuesday June 26, 2012 MYT 3:23:47 PM

KUALA LUMPUR: The iconic Bukit Bintang Plaza located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur and built more than 30 years ago will be demolished to make way for the Klang Valley Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) project, mall owner UDA Holdings confirmed Tuesday.

UDA Holdings senior vice-president Syed Ahmad Nazri Syed Kamaruzaman said tenants located outside the front portion of the mall have already been informed to vacate by the end of this month while the rest of the tenants would have to vacate the mall by end of this year.

He said this during a press conference, after having a dialogue with the tenants on the issue.

Meanwhile, according to a Bernama report, MRT Corp has given the mall operator until year-end to vacate the building.

"Eviction notice will be issued to the tenants to move out," UDA Holdings managing director Ahmad Abu Bakar said.

He said UDA would await a decision from the Finance Ministry on the application by Tradewinds (M) Bhd to participate in the Bukit Bintang Plaza building reconstruction.

Ahmad said UDA has received the formal application from Tradewinds and other companies also keen to part take in the project.
