Dear ASGeorge, dont shed tears. Think or imagine that these projects are to be implemented in the next 100 years and let your great great grandson scratch his head bothering about it.
I recently read in one magazine that Cochin may be under water due to global warming in the next 50 or less years. Such happenings can remove the need to have the smart city implemented there if our selected representatives can kill more years promising this and that . Some similar fate can happen to Trivandrum so that Vizhinjam or the Enchakkal bus terminal can be safely off the table. In Kerala, only one thing is sure to happen. We elect our representatives every 5 years and to win the same they make false promises and go down to even filthy levels. We have heard that our representatives did not attend the recent Railway meeting to put forward our wish list just prior to the Railway Budget presentation. It seems we will be just beggars to receive whatever is not needed by other states like Tamilnadu , Karnataka etc. After all beggars are not choosers. Dont forget if it were to hold a meeting to decide about the pleasure trips by our representatives to countries like China , Rome etc, we will have a great representation and solid proposals will be put. Tears!!! Last edited by Kannan46; November 30th, 2012 at 08:28 PM. |

![]() People travelling to kovalam/vizhinjam/poovar were facing difficulty when the stop was shifted few months back, as there was no proper shelter. Also the buses parked there were causing traffic blocks.

Route numbers to be back on City buses
![]() The Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) is planning to revive the route number system for its city services in the capital. But this time, they will be designed in such a manner that the numbers don’t end up confusing passengers, KSRTC officials said. Originally introduced in 2008, the system had quickly proved unsuccessful. Now, the KSRTC is planning to roll out a computerised system where each bus route will be given numbers which can be easily identified, KSRTC Chief Traffic Manager in charge of Executive Director (Operations) K M Irshad said. The KSRTC had launched the bus route number project saying it would prove a big help to non-Malayali tourists and other visitors to the city who are used to seeing route numbers on buses in cities like Mumbai and Delhi. The destination boards on the buses are written only in Malayalam - this is the situation even now - and many are illegible. The original route numbers introduced in Thiruvananthapuram were a combination of numbers and alphabets. For example, bus 155A linked Veli and Vettucaud via Valiyathura and Shangumugham. But the system was confusing to passengers and did not catch on in Thiruvananthapuram and fell into disuse. KSRTC officials say the numbers have not been scrapped officially, even though the passengers don’t use them. You can still see dusty boards displaying the route numbers in big city bus stations like East Fort. Now, the KSRTC is planning to reintroduce them along with other hi-tech facilities which the KSRTC is planning to roll out in its city buses across the state. Source |

The price is very less:
Rs 6000/- for 77 passengers or Rs 78/per head. If KSRTC markets this as "Ananthapuri Darshan" and paints in good colours providing good seats/AC and markets this through DTPC in Trivandrum Central and Airport (both Terminals),you can see this getting full on all days. They can design a package to include food, guided tour, pre booked tickets for Zoo,S&T Museum,Queless darshan at Padmanabha Swami Temple,......at actual price, this will be a huge success. |

Entrusting KSRTC to venture into this is inviting disaster! They are the ones who wanted to run JNNURM intra-city buses on inter-city routes - those buses are not designed for inter city travel! Even the running of city buses should be taken over from KSRTC by a separate entity formed just to take care of the transport needs of the city akin to BMTC in Bangalore. The KSRTC folks can't even implement bus route numbers properly! |

![]() 3.5 acres of land at Anayara under Agriculture Department has been handed over to KSRTC. This would turn out to be an important city terminal close to Veli railway station, National Water Authority, Airport and Kazhakootam- Kovalam by-pass. |
