A single building that ruins the whole skyline

I'll start with Chicago and Manhattan

Chicago - John Hancock Center

Manhattan - City Group Center

I was pleased to see that I'm not alone. John Hancock Tower made it into the ugly skyscarpers thread, and when I was at the top of ESB, my friend who was with me said that the building with the slanted roof is an eyesore.

Also, when I say skyline I mean a skyline of tall buildings, so that lone tower in Paris wouldn't really fit the criterion for this thread.

I really like both you posted.... The city group center won't be missed but Chicago wouldn't be Chicago whitout the Hancock center...

Personally I love how the structure is made visible in the John Hancock Center. It reminds me gothic cathedrals. It gives a lot of strength to the building.

And meanwhile, the slightly pyramidal shape of the fašades makes it very slender and avoids it to look overweight. So overall, John Hancock stands out and is quite well-balanced.

Now of course, that's just about me.

Citygroup Center MAY not be really that ugly on its own, but it just doesn't fit in with the skyline. When you're standing at the top of ESB admiring possibly the best view on Earth, this one building ruins it. It just sticks out like a sore thumb.

I beg to differ with CityGroup. I think it's one of Midtown's gem and interesting skyscraper. Midtown would not be the same without it.

I believe the UN tower destroyed Midtown's skyline

I'm just happy that it's undergoing renovation

I think those buildings in NY and Chicago are okay, Henninger Turm in Frankfurt is ruining the skyline from that view indeed though.

I like Chicago and Barcelona's. Macau is horrendous, and most buildings in Frankfurt are ugly so which building ruins it?

Couldn't agree more. Just hate it.

But apparently many Frankfurters think its a landmark and kind of like it. So there would be protest if someone decides to demolish it.

Thr GM HQ in Detroit looks so out of place. Doesn't fit at all IMO.

^but without it Detroit wouldn't have a skyline... and it looks really nice right there, just needs some new development nears it to help balance it out...

Guy's Hospital, the brutalist monstrosity on the right, wrecks the Shard in London.

It's the tallest and ugliest hospital in the world, in piss brown concrete
